The gardener isn't very happy about his onions being moved from the shed to the summer house, where they won't be as protected, but the children make light work of the job - anything to prove Susie wrong and have a meeting!

Scamper the dog begins to bark as they approach the hut. A voice shouts at him to "Clear off!" and a stone is thrown from inside. Peter confronts the three men who just laugh at him. Peter runs to get the gardener but the men walk away. Janet describes them as "a nasty-looking lot". Jack takes down their descriptions in his notebook.

Answer: Granny's house was smashed up and the maid was locked in the larder

Colin went to Granny's house to drop off some eggs so she could have poached eggs when she returned from holiday. When he got there, the house had been ransacked and Greta, the "Austrian helper" was locked inside the larder. Some of Granny's silver and valuable jewellery were stolen and have not been recovered. Greta described three men to the police who fit the description of the men the children saw in the shed! Two of the men were captured, but one is still on the loose.

Answer: The Tiresome Three

Jack thinks this is an appropriate name. He is worried about his annoying sister ganging up on him with her two friends. He thinks Hilda and Doris are even worse than Susie!

Answer: He makes a horrible, loud groaning noise outside their meeting and scares them off

After Susie and her friends prop up the Secret Seven's very realistic Guy against the shed wall, giving them a shock, Jack goes home to find them having their own meeting. He overhears how jealous they are of the brilliant Guy they've made and how they wish they could ruin the Secret Seven's bonfire if only they knew where it was. Jack makes a horrific noise outside and scares them all silly.

Answer: A few twigs and a note from the Secret Seven

Jack tells Susie a fake location of their bonfire, warning them not to go anywhere near it as he doesn't trust them. The Secret Seven take pleasure in knowing that Susie would have to climb the very steep hill only to find a few old twigs and a note from the Secret Seven.

When Jack gets home, Susie is very cross with him - they are all very tired and poor Doris is in tears - she fell down and hurt her ankle. Jack feels sorry for his trick now. But if Susie and her friends were up the hill, whose was the face at the shed window during the Secret Seven meeting? Another mystery to solve!

Answer: The shed has been filled back up with vegetables

Peter drops the money off in the tin then goes to ask his dad if he has an old pipe for the Guy. His dad finds a broken pipe and Peter goes to take it to the shed, which is when he realises he doesn't have the key. He and Janet go to the shed to find that he left the key in the lock.

At first they don't see anything wrong inside, but then they see the Guy wearing nothing but his mask! They naturally assume Susie and her gang are responsible but they seem very upset at the accusation. Later on they find the money missing too, and surely Susie wouldn't take that.

Answer: His dad makes him help out with some jobs and he can't watch them

Jack tries to watch Susie and her friends all day so they won't be able to go and destroy the bonfire. He is doing well until his dad asks him to come and help him and he can't get away to stop Susie going out. He is finally able to call Peter and tell him, but when Peter and Janet get to the bonfire, it is already ruined - twigs are spread all over the field.

Answer: The gardener's spade and a button from the Guy's clothing

When Peter and Janet arrive they find the bonfire destroyed. About the same time, Susie and her pals are arriving and seem genuinely surprised to find the bonfire in that state. Janet believes she is innocent, but Peter is not so sure. They think they see Mr Burton the gardener in his shed and go and see him.

He is not there but they find his spade, freshly used to dig the holes in the field, and a button which they recognise as being from the stolen clothes from their Guy. Could Mr Burton be the thief!?

Answer: Disguised as the Guy on the top of the bonfire

The thief is digging in the field looking for the stolen goods. The police come along just as he is getting nasty and hitting Scamper with the spade. The man makes a run for it and the police chase him but lose him in the dark. It starts to rain, ruining the bonfire, and all seems hopeless. Just as they are about to give up, they spot the man - sitting on the top of the bonfire dressed as the Guy! The police come back and catch him.

It seems like the bonfire fun is all over after the rain and they didn't have much money for fireworks, but then the police give them a bumper box of fireworks as a reward! The Secret Seven invite Susie and her friends along by way of apology for thinking she was responsible, and all is well!
