Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. God gave the plans for the tabernacle to a very special leader. The leader was the same person God gave the ten commandments to and also helped lead God's people through the desert. Who was he?

Answer: Moses

God gave Moses the exact directions and plans for how he wanted the tabernacle to be built. He wanted it to be a special place where the Israelites could go to worship Him. He also wanted it to be a symbol to the Israelites that He was with them wherever they were in the desert. Moses took down the instructions God gave him carefully and gave them to the people.

He followed God's details to the exact letter.
2. The tabernacle had a very special gate that was made out material that had four colors. Which of these were NOT one of them?

Answer: orange

The entrance to the tabernacle was made out of multi-colored material that included red, blue, white, and purple. Its bright colors stood out in the sun against the white fence surrounding the tabernacle. The colors let people know where the exact entrance was. No one was supposed to enter the tabernacle through any other way. Because the tabernacle was a holy place, people with diseases or disabilities were not allowed to enter through the gate.
3. The first thing people saw when they entered the gate was a large brazen altar. What was offered at the brazen altar for acts of sin or for worship?

Answer: sacrifices

The brazen altar was the largest thing in the tabernacle. It was so large all the other pieces of the tabernacle could fit inside it when the Israelites had to move. People had to bring their sacrifices to the brazen altar before they could go any further into the tabernacle. If someone had committed a sin, they brought an animal to the priest and the priest offered the sacrifice to God on the brazen altar. Sometimes people would bring offerings to worship God for all the good things He had done for them.
4. God wanted anyone who entered the tabernacle to be clean. What was the item in the court yard called, where priests would wash themselves before going into the tabernacle?

Answer: The laver of water

The laver of water was a bronze wash basin for the priests. It was behind the brazen altar in the outside of the courtyard. It was made from the mirrors of the Israelite women, and helped the priests stay clean for their priestly job duties. They had to continually wash their hands and feet while doing the work of God in the tabernacle.

They had to wash before they went into the tabernacle and when they came out.
5. The outside of the tabernacle looked really dull, and was made out of badger skins. However the inside of the tabernacle was covered by red, blue, and purple curtains. What winged creature was woven into the curtains' design?

Answer: an angel

Angels called cherubims were woven into the curtains. They were special angels that represented the worship of God and His judgment.
6. Inside the Tabernacle was a special object that was used for light. What was the candlestick for the tabernacle made out of?

Answer: gold

The golden candlestick was the only source of light in the part of the tabernacle known as the Holy Place. There were no windows to let light in and the candlestick gave light to the priests. It had been made out of one piece of solid gold and had seven arms with flowered designs for the candles.
7. In the tabernacle there was a special golden table. What type of food was on the table for the priests?

Answer: bread

The golden table had bread that was baked fresh daily for the priests. Every day it held twelve loaves of bread, one to represent each tribe of Israel. The bread was only for the priests. There were also bowls, pitchers, and plates of gold for the priests to use and eat from. However, there were no chairs in the tabernacle. The priests had to eat and do all their duties standing up.
8. There was a small golden altar inside the tabernacle. The priests burned a special offering on it that gave a sweet smell to the tabernacle.

Answer: True

The golden altar inside the tabernacle was known as the altar of incense. The priests burned a special mixture of oil and spices on top of it with a coal they would bring from the bronze altar outside. It offered up a sweet smell in the tabernacle that covered up the scent of burnt offerings outside. It was a form of worship the priests gave to God.
9. A veil sealed off this special place where only the High Priest could enter once a year. What was the last part of the tabernacle called where God's Spirit came?

Answer: The Holy of Holies

The high priest was the only one allowed to go into the Holy of Holies. Once a year he would take blood from the brazen altar and offer it as an offering before God in the Holy of Holies. The Spirit of God would come down and forgive the sins of the Israelites.
10. The last object in the Tabernacle was the Ark of the Covenant. It was gold, had two angels, and a mercy seat in the middle of it. What did it represent?

Answer: The presence of God

The Ark of the Covenant was gold and very beautiful. It was the most important piece of furniture in the tabernacle. It had two cherubim angels facing each other and a mercy seat in between them. Once a year the priest would offer a special offering to place in the mercy seat so God would not be angry with His people. The Ark of the Covenant also had the ten commandments that God gave to Moses inside of it.

When God's people would move or go into battle, The Ark of the Covenant was taken out and carried by the priests. It represented the presence of God among His people. It was a sign that He was with them.
