Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What sort of animal was Jeremy Fisher?

Answer: Frog

Mr Jeremy Fisher was a frog whose home was at the side of a pond among some buttercups. He had a small house with several rooms just for himself to live in. It was rather damp underfoot in some rooms but he liked it that way and never got a cold.
2. How did Jeremy feel when he saw it was raining?

Answer: Quite pleased

Mr Fisher liked the rain and planned to find some worms as bait for the minnows he was going fishing to try and catch. He was thinking about inviting some friends to dinner if he caught enough of them, although one friend ate only salads.
3. What clothes did Mr Fisher put on to go fishing?

Answer: Mackintosh and galoshes

When he went out Jeremy Fisher took a fishing rod to catch the minnows and carried a basket on his back to put them in. He bounded along in very large hops to get to where he kept his boat moored when he was not using it.
4. Where did Jeremy anchor his boat when he was fishing?

Answer: In open water

His boat was a lily-pad so was roundish and green. Mr Fisher kept it tethered to a plant in the pond unless he was out in it. Now he used a pole to move the boat into open water where he expected to be able to catch some minnows.
5. What did Jeremy Fisher have for lunch?

Answer: Butterfly sandwich

He hadn't caught any fish after almost an hour and was getting bored. It was raining, too, so Jeremy poled his boat to the shelter of some water-plants. There he ate his sandwich but was worried because he could hear another creature among the plants too.
6. Which was the first fish Jeremy caught?

Answer: Stickleback

When he went back to fishing after his lunch, Jeremy very soon felt a fish biting at his bait and he brought it into his boat. He was excited as he believed it was one of the minnows he was trying to catch but it turned out to be a spiny stickleback.
7. After his fingers had been hurt, which creature did Mr Fisher see next?

Answer: Trout

The stickleback he had caught flopped around Jeremy's boat then leaped into the water again. Its spines had pricked his fingers and made them sore. Then a huge trout jumped from the water, took hold of Jeremy in its mouth and went back into the water with him.
8. How did Jeremy Fisher lose his footwear?

Answer: They were eaten

The trout, which had got Mr Fisher in its mouth, did not like the taste of the mackintosh he was wearing so it spat him out. However, it did swallow his galoshes. He quickly swam to the nearest bank of the pond, climbed out and hopped home.
9. What was Mr Fisher's opinion about going fishing again?

Answer: He thought he didn't dare to

When he got home after his narrow escape from the trout, Jeremy felt grateful it had not been a pike. Although he had lost his fishing equipment, he did not worry as he felt he would never be brave enough to try fishing again.
10. Who came to dinner with Jeremy?

Answer: Sir Isaac Newton and Mr Alderman Ptolemy Tortoise

Although he had not caught any minnows to give them to eat, Mr Fisher still invited his two friends to dinner because he had some dead insects in the larder for their meal. He and Sir Newton ate these while the Alderman brought some salad with him to eat instead.
