Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is in your body that needs calcium to keep them strong and from breaking easily?

Answer: bones

Your skeletal system is made up of bones which grow and change with your body. A newborn baby has 300 bones. As you grow, your bones fuse which means they join together at different places in your body. They do not stop growing until you reach the age of 25. You will then have only 206 bones.

The smallest bone in your body is located in your ear and is called the stirrup. Milk and cheese are very good sources of calcium.
2. If you go for a check-up, or are not feeling very well, what kind of person would you go see?

Answer: doctor

If you become sick, someone may take you to see a medical doctor or a physician. Most doctors wear white coats and carry a stethoscope around their necks. They use it to listen to your heart and lungs. You do not have to be scared of doctors because they are there to help by giving you the right medicine so you can begin to feel better.
3. Physical activity is essential for your body and can help keep you healthy if you do it for around one hour a day. What is this called?

Answer: exercising

Many children are not eating nutritional meals or exercising the way they should. It is important to eat healthily and do some kind of physical activity every day. This helps to strengthen your muscles, to be flexible, helps to maintain a good weight, and even fights against many diseases. Playing sports is a great exercise for children. Even in the winter you can exercise indoors. You can dance, jump or walk in place, play with your Wii, and even help with housework and lawn chores.
4. Whole grain wheat bread and apples, for example, are very good for your body and supply it with which of the following?

Answer: fiber

Fiber is very important in helping your body get rid of waste so you will not become constipated (having a hard time using the bathroom). It helps your body to fight against diseases like diabetes, high cholesterol, and some types of cancers. Other good foods to eat that have fiber are bananas, beans, brown rice, carrots, nuts, oatmeal, and oranges.

These help to keep your tummy from rumbling from hunger and keep you full longer so you won't reach for a sugary snack such as a candy bar.
5. What should you brush and floss everyday?

Answer: teeth

Your teeth depend on calcium to keep them strong just as your bones do. It is best to use a soft-bristled toothbrush and brush for two minutes in an up and down motion. If you do not brush regularly, bacteria can easily get between your teeth and cause a cavity. Flossing is important because it can get between your teeth where your toothbrush can't. Be sure to brush two or three times a day, including your tongue, floss once a day, and get a new toothbrush every three months.

It is also recommended to visit your dentist every six months.
6. What should you do to let your body rest for at least eight to nine hours during the night?

Answer: sleep

Sleep is really important because after a day of school and activities your brain needs to rest as well as your body. This helps you to think more clearly in class the next day and it also builds your immune system which helps you from getting sick. Do not drink any sodas or teas after two o'clock in the afternoon as these contain caffeine. If you find it hard to get to sleep, try drinking a small glass of warm milk. You will soon drift off to 'dreamland'.
7. Which of the following liquids is best for you to drink?

Answer: water

Water, or H2O, is necessary for your body. Without water, we would not live very long. It hydrates our cells and entire bodily system, but most importantly it is better for us than sodas or other liquids. Plastic water bottles are not good for our environment so if you do choose to drink from plastic water bottles, be sure to recycle them. You will be helping our earth if you do.
8. If you do not get enough of your daily essentials in your meals, what can you take to help add more to your body?

Answer: vitamins

Although you may eat healthy meals and exercise there are times that your body does not get all the vitamins that it needs. That is why you see a variety of vitamins on the shelves at your local stores or pharmacies. One very important vitamin is Vitamin D.

It helps to keep your bones strong and you can actually get this from the sunlight too. Another one your body needs is Vitamin C. It helps to build your immune system and keeps your brain working right. You can get this vitamin from many fruits and vegetables. Drinking a glass of orange juice with your breakfast is a good source of Vitamin C.
9. What should you do before any type of physical activity to loosen your muscles?

Answer: stretch

Reach, reach, and reach those arms up high! Walk, march or jog in place. This will warm your muscle groups up before you begin to stretch. Stretching should be done before and after an exercise routine. It improves your body's circulation and keeps you from injuring yourself while you are working out or playing sports.

It helps your body to be flexible too. Stretch in a slow and steady motion, holding each one for at least thirty seconds. And remember, never bounce when you are stretching as this could really damage your muscles.
10. For a healthy heart, what is the best recommended form of activity that is not only easy but fun too?

Answer: walking

One of the best health fitness benefits for children and adults is walking. It is a low impact exercise and is easier on your joints than running or jogging. Walking can help prevent your body from getting many diseases and it's a wonderful way to keep your heart pumping blood the way it should.

It helps you sleep better at night too. Buy yourself a pair of comfortable walking shoes, warm up, stretch, and get outside and go walking!
