Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Lady Gaga and religion--that seems a rather odd combination. However, she has a song on her album "Born This Way" with the name of a traitorous character from the Bible. What is the song called?

Answer: Judas

"Judas" is one of several singles off of Lady Gaga's record-setting 2011 album "Born This Way".

"Judas" was given quite a few positive reviews from critics, but did not perform nearly as well as her other singles. "Born This Way" did break some records, though, becoming the fastest-selling single of iTunes history (at the time).

The song "Judas" is about a woman falling in love with someone who betrays her. She keeps falling in love with him, but he keeps betraying her. The name "Judas" is taken from the Bible. Judas Iscariot is well-known from the Bible as the man who betrayed Jesus.

2. What disease symptom causes your skin and sclerae to turn yellowish, due to increased levels of bilirubin in the blood?

Answer: Jaundice

Jaundice is usually an indicator of poor liver performance, as bilirubin is formed when dead red blood cells are removed. The liver then breaks down the bilirubin. It could also mean that there are too many red blood cells dying.

4. This talented singer, whose breathtaking cover of "Hallelujah" has gained much-deserved acclaim since his premature death, only released one completed studio album: "Grace" (1994). Who was he?

Answer: Jeff Buckley

Jeff Buckley's estranged father, musician Tim Buckley, also died at a young age. Buckley is noted for his beautiful voice and an unbelievable vocal range that served him well in many different musical genres, including rock and folk music. Buckley's debut album "Grace" (1994) contained his memorable cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah". It also featured songs of his own composition, including "Eternal Life" and, a favorite of mine, "Dream Brother". Jeff Buckley died of accidental drowning at the age of 30 in 1997. One additional studio album, incomplete at the time of his death, was released posthumously in 1998, entitled "Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk".

5. In the movie "A Knight's Tale" (2001), William Thatcher disguises himself as a nobleman to compete in tournaments open only to knights. In what 14th-century sport involving horses and lances does William prove his prowess in the film?

Answer: Jousting

"A Knight's Tale" (2001) has earned a nearly cult-classic status thanks to its unique blending of the romantic comedy genre, a modern sporting atmosphere featuring medieval jousting competitions, and a hearty dose of rock and roll music! Heath Ledger played William Thatcher, the title squire-turned-knight, in one of his first major film roles. Under the guise of Sir Ulrich von Liechtenstein, William woos his lady, Jocelyn (Shannyn Sossamon), and proves his inner nobility by competing in forbidden jousting tournaments where armored men attempt to unhorse one another with the violent blows of their treelike lances. Aiding William in these endeavors are loyal friends, including his fellow squires, Wat and Roland (Alan Tudyk and Mark Addy), and Paul Bettany as eccentric author Geoffrey Chaucer.

6. Japanning refers to what process?

Answer: Application of a black lacquer to a surface to provide a shiny finish

Japanning refers to a process using a heavy black lacquer as a decorative coating on housewares. A resin based lacquer is applied in layers, and then polished. It originated in India, China and Japan as a decorative pottery coating. Often a gold design was painted on top of the black as decoration. Later the process was used on bicycles as a waterproofing as well as on some jars, rendering them waterproof.

10. It is argued by some that a black panther is actually a melanistic jaguar. If this is true, which of these fictional big cats would be considered a jaguar?

Answer: Bagheera

Some scientists believe the black panther is a black version of a jaguar, while some believe it is a black leopard. Still others are convinced it is a cryptid, an unknown big cat species yet to be classified.

Assuming it is a black jaguar, Bagheera (from "The Jungle Book") would be classified as a jaguar (as he is considered a black panther). Aslan is a lion from "The Chronicles of Narnia", Shere Khan is a tiger (also from "The Jungle Book"), and Hunter is a cheetah from "Spyro the Dragon".
