Established as a club in 1919 by the A. E. Staley company, and based in Decatur, Illinois, the team was originally called the Decatur Staleys.

Having relocated to Chicago in 1921, the team became the Chicago Bears in 1922.

The Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, and Minnesota Vikings are the other teams that make up the NFC North Division, along with the Chicago Bears.
