The German Shepherd Dog is a popular breed of dog in the USA and UK being the American Kennel Club's second-most registered breed and the seventh-most registered breed with The Kennel Club in the UK. In the UK the breed name was changed after World War I to the Alsatian Wolf Dog due to anti-German sentiment; the UK reverted to the name German Shepherd Dog in 1977. German Shepherd Dogs are used in many different roles including as guard and police dogs as well as being used for search and rescue and as detection dogs for drugs and explosives.

Cryptic Crosswords were developed in the UK in the 1920s particularly through the crosswords set by Edward Powys Mathers in 'The Observer' newspaper from 1926. Mathers used the name 'Torquemada' as his crossword compiler pseudonym and although he cannot be deemed the inventor of the cryptic clue he became the first person to create published crossword puzzles consisting entirely of cryptic clues.

The League of Nations was established after World War I as part of the Treaty of Versailles and came into being in January 1920. US President Woodrow Wilson was instrumental in establishing the League although the US Senate voted against joining it. The aim of the League was to promote peace by finding diplomatic settlements to international issues rather than countries resorting to war.

Despite its aims and some successes in the 1920s the League failed to deal with the aggressions perpetrated by nations in the 1930s and the outbreak of World War II showed that the League had failed.

It was dissolved in 1946 and replaced by the United Nations.

The novel has been adapted many times for film, theatre and TV and was the inspiration for the 1978 song 'Wuthering Heights' by Kate Bush.

'Slumdog Millionaire' is a 2008 movie loosely based on Vikas Swarup's novel 'Q & A'. The authorities assume Jamal must have cheated on the show and the film shows Jamal's life story as he tells it to the police which demonstrates how he knew the answers to all the questions.

As well as winning Best Picture the movie's director Danny Boyle also won the Oscar for Best Director.

The album 'Let It Be' was released in May 1970 and topped the album charts in both the UK and the USA. The Jehovah's Witnesses are a Christian group although some of their beliefs are very different from many of the mainstream Christian denominations. Following Russell's death Joseph Franklin Rutherford controlled the Watch Tower Society and it was he who introduced the name Jehovah's Witnesses. This has famously been done by them visiting people's homes but more recently in some places they have moved to having stands in public places such as shopping centres and railway stations.

'Call of Duty' is a video game franchise in the first-person shooter genre. The series was originally set in the Second World War before expanding into the 'Modern Warfare' series which had a contemporary setting and the 'Black Ops' series which focused more on clandestine missions.
