Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Let's start at the beginning... "Sweet FA" originated as an abbreviation of "Sweet Fanny Adams," which was originally Naval slang for which foodstuff?

Answer: Tinned mutton

Fanny Adams was an eight year old English girl whose brutal murder in 1867 captured the attention of the nation. At the same time tinned mutton was introduced to the navy, and sailors darkly joked that the tins really contained "Sweet Fanny Adams." Over time the phrase was contracted and applied to other unpopular or worthless items.

Incidentally, creamed chipped beef on toast was referred to by members of the US Navy as "SOS," or, well, "Something on a shingle!"
2. When the FBI came looking for him, they found sweet FA. To which con man, impostor and jail-breaker am I referring?

Answer: Frank Abagnale

One of the most famous impostors ever, Abagnale assumed no fewer than eight identities and escaped from police custody twice - all between the ages of 15 and 21! His autobiography, "Catch Me If You Can," was adapted into an Oscar-nominated movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Abagnale.

Abagnale now works legitimately as an FBI lecturer and as a fraud consultant.
3. It is ill-advised to suggest a pregnant lady eat Sweet FA, unless you are suggesting she supplement her diet with which of the following?

Answer: Folic Acid

Taking folic acid during pregnancy reduces the risk of neural tube defects. It can also be used to combat anemia.
4. "I can't be drunk, officer, I've drank sweet FA!" By which I mean I've been drinking which homemade tipple, made from Fermented Apples?

Answer: Scrumpy

Scrumpy is traditionally a rough cider, traditionally associated with the West Country of England. Somerset band The Wurzels, of "The Combine Harvester" fame, are classified as making "Scrumpy and Western" music.

Moonshine is traditionally made in the US from corn mash, tharra in North India from sugarcane and pruno in prisons from fruit, bread, sugar, ketchup... whatever inmates can get their hands on!
5. What colourful carnivore has the scientific name "Fratercula arctica?"

Answer: Puffin

Puffins primarily prey on small fish that they hunt for under the surface of the water on dives that average around 20 seconds at a time, though they can remain in the water for two minutes! When catching small fish a puffin will arrange them from head to tail along its bill, in order to catch more before returning to land. A puffin can commonly collect up to thirty fish in this manner!
6. My brother's been practicing playing the scales on the piano for hours now - I wish he'd just play FA! How many keys are there between the F and A keys on a piano?

Answer: 3

The three keys are the F#, the G, and the G#. Of course, FA also makes an appearance on the tonal scale, and is immortalised in song about as being "A long, long way to run!"
7. Which FA would you associate with the TV shows "Forever," "Portlandia" and "Documentary Now?"

Answer: Fred Armisen

"Forever" is a comedy-drama starring Armisen and Maya Rudolph. "Portlandia" was a sketch show starring Armisen and Carrie Brownstein and "Documentary Now!" is a series of documentary parodies created by and generally starring Armisen and Bill Hader.

Armisen was also a "Saturday Night Live" cast member for 11 years and is the drummer for the 8G Band, the house band for "Late Night with Seth Meyers."
8. Our next FA is musician Fiona Apple. Which of these is NOT one of her studio albums?

Answer: The Orphan Living on a Moisture Farm Yearns For Adventure, Unaware of the Many Tragedies that Shall Beset Him

Apple is the singer-songwriter and pianist who created four studio albums and one compilation album. She has sold over ten million albums worldwide and held the record for most sales in a single week for a digital-only album.

The fake album title I wrote describes Luke Skywalker at the beginning of "A New Hope."
9. When it comes to healthy foods, I know FA! Which of the following is best made with Fresh Avocado?

Answer: Cobb salad

A Cobb salad contains lettuce, avocado, bacon, hard-boiled egg, chicken, blue cheese, and cherry tomatoes. It was created at the Hollywood Brown Derby restaurant and named after the owner, Robert Howard Cobb.

Does learning that flash animation series "Salad Fingers" was created in 2004 make you feel old? I certainly did!
10. You deserve a trophy for making it this far! But where would you win the FA cup?

Answer: Wembley Stadium

The FA Cup Final is the last match in the Football Association Challenge Cup, a knockout competition among clubs belonging to The Football Association in England. It takes place at Wembley Stadium, although the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff hosted the final between 2001 and 2006 whilst Wembley was being demolished and redeveloped.
