Question 1 of 10
1. I am sitting in Chemistry 101 and the lecturer is so boring. He has just started talking about the chemical makeup of water, which is H2O, as everyone knows.

I begin to daydream and recall an episode of the "Simpsons" where one of the characters utters the line whilst watering his lawn, "This brown spot needs a little H2-Oh, yeah". What is the name of the Duff brewery employee whose catchphrase is "Oh, Yeah!"?
Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. The bell rings and Chemistry 101 is finished for today. I decide to head to the canteen for some lunch. I see that on the menu there is golden fried chicken. Yum, that sounds delicious. Then, for some reason, the term "liquid gold" comes into my head. Which natural substance is sometimes referred to as liquid gold? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. After lunch I have History 101. I am looking forward to this class as we are going to cover the Iron Age of man. Before going into the class, I decide to get a cup of coffee. I take a sip and burn my tongue; I comment to my friend that it is like molten iron. This gets him thinking and he asks: "At what temperature does iron change from a solid to a liquid"? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. Iron-I clever, as I leave my history lesson? As I walk down the hall I see the sweetest-looking girl in the school. Sweet as honey, I think to myself. But no time to waste, it is onto French 101 next. Before I go in, I try to remember what the French word for "honey" is. What is it? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. I am sitting in French 101 and the teacher asks us to translate the following French phrase, "Oú est la bibliothèque?". There are some puzzled faces looking back at her, but I know the answer. What is the English translation of the phrase "Oú est la bibliothèque"? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. Ooh La La. D'accord...I mean OK. Looking quickly at my timetable I have five minutes to make it to my next class, Math 101. So, here is a math question to get the old grey matter working.

Read the question fully first. A car leaves point A and travels north for four miles. Then the car makes a 90 degree turn and travels west for three miles, and then stops at point B. What is the straight line distance between point B and point A?
Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. Now it's time for me to go to soccer practice because we have a big game coming up soon and we need the practice.

Here is a soccer question to keep you inspired. Every year FIFA awards the Ballon d'Or to the best footballer in the world. What is the name of the diminutive South American footballer who received the award in 2011?
Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. After a quick shower, it's back to class again. I look at my timetable and to my relief I've now got my favorite subject, Geography 101. My geography is very good, so try this question on for size (it's a toughy): which country in central Europe is doubly landlocked? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. One final class before I can go home to put my feet up for the evening. Oh dear, my final class is English Literature 101. Methinks a question on Shakespeare is on the horizon. We are currently studying "Othello", one of Shakespeare's tragic plays. Which one of the following characters does not appear in the play "Othello"? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. Finally, another school day has ended and not too soon either. "School" is an interesting word and is used in many phrases that people commonly use; for example, school of life, school of hard knocks, etc. There is one term where the word school is used in relation to animals. What group of animals can be classified as being part of a school? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

Answer: Duffman

The character of Duffman from the TV cartoon series the "Simpsons" has been voiced by actor Hank Azaria. Duffman is portrayed as a muscle-bound pretty boy who is employed by Duff Beer to promote its products. Duffman comes across as a vain, shallow womanizer with questionable morals and ethics.

Answer: Crude oil

Crude oil is extracted from deep within the earth's crust. The method for extraction of oil is by method of drilling; on-land drilling is done by erecting a derrick or rig. Offshore drilling is done from an offshore oil rig. The largest offshore drilling platform in the world is the Troll A platform, which is actually used to drill for natural gas.

Answer: 1,530 degrees Celsius

Iron has a melting point of 1,530 degrees Celsius or 2,786 Fahrenheit. The chemical symbol for iron is Fe. Iron was and is used for all kinds of purposes, from the forging of tools and weapons to the building of bridges and ships. The other temperatures relate to the melting points of Phosphorous 44 degrees Celsius, Hydrogen -259 degrees Celsius and Tungsten 3,000 degrees Celsius.
4. Iron-I clever, as I leave my history lesson? As I walk down the hall I see the sweetest-looking girl in the school. Sweet as honey, I think to myself. But no time to waste, it is onto French 101 next. Before I go in, I try to remember what the French word for "honey" is. What is it?

Answer: Miel

Honey has some amazing properties. For example, honey doesn't appear to ever go "off" in terms of its edibleness. It was reported that archeologists found a 2000-year-old pot of honey in an Egyptian tomb that was still edible. Honey also has natural anti-bacterial properties. Honey is commonly used for ailments such as stomach aches and sore throats.
5. I am sitting in French 101 and the teacher asks us to translate the following French phrase, "Oú est la bibliothèque?". There are some puzzled faces looking back at her, but I know the answer. What is the English translation of the phrase "Oú est la bibliothèque"?

Answer: Where is the library?

The biggest library in France is, of course, the National Library of France or Bibliothèque Nationale de France (BnF). The library is located in Paris and is home to a whopping ten million books and over 300,000 manuscripts. There are other items stored in the library such as coins and maps.

Answer: 5 miles

The answer to this math question is obtained by applying Pythagoras' theorem. The theorem states: In a right angled triangle, the square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides.

To get the answer above we needed to find the length of the hypotenuse by getting the square root of the sum of the squares of the other two sides. Hypotenuse = square root of (4x4)+(3x3); square root of 16+9; square root of 25 = 5. Therefore, five is the length of the hypotenuse and also the straight line distance between point B and point A.

Answer: Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi, who has been the star forward for Barcelona FC, is also an international player for Argentina. Lionel Messi also won the Ballon d'Or in 2010. Messi was shortlisted along with two of his teammates for the award. His two teammates whom he out-polled to win the award were Spanish internationals Xavi and Andres Iniesta. Messi scored a whopping 34 goals in La Liga for Barcelona--an achievement even more impressive when you consider he played in 35 league games that season. To top off things for Messi, he was also voted Argentine player of the year.
8. After a quick shower, it's back to class again. I look at my timetable and to my relief I've now got my favorite subject, Geography 101. My geography is very good, so try this question on for size (it's a toughy): which country in central Europe is doubly landlocked?

Answer: Liechtenstein

Liechtenstein is located in central Europe and shares a border with both Switzerland and Austria. Both of those countries are landlocked, therefore making Liechtenstein one of only two doubly landlocked countries in the world. The other is Uzbekistan in central Asia. Liechtenstein is officially referred to as the Principality of Liechtenstein.

The capital is Vaduz and the official language is German.

Answer: King Lear

"Othello" is a play that revolves around four main characters: Othello the Moorish general, his wife Desdemona, his Lieutenant Cassio and his trusted ensign Iago. The play is layered with themes of racism, betrayal, love and jealousy. The lead character, Othello, is misled to believe that his wife Desdemona is cheating on him with his good Lieutenant Cassio. This is all instigated by Iago, whom Othello trusts. Iago, on the other hand, is jealous of Othello's good fortune both as a solider and because he is married to such a beautiful woman. Iago is also racist towards Othello due to the fact that he is a Moor who has achieved such high rank within the army.

"Othello" has been adapted for ballet, opera, television, film and even graphic novel.
10. Finally, another school day has ended and not too soon either. "School" is an interesting word and is used in many phrases that people commonly use; for example, school of life, school of hard knocks, etc. There is one term where the word school is used in relation to animals. What group of animals can be classified as being part of a school?

Answer: Fish

The term school of fish may have been derived from the term shoal. There are certain fish that are specifically classified as being in a school, these are: sharks, whales and porpoises. However, most fish in general are referred to as being in a school when speaking about large groups of fish.
