Ernest Borgnine (1917-2012) was an American actor of film and television. He possibly is best remembered as Lieutenant Commander Quinton McHale in the television comedy series "McHale's Navy"(1962-1966). However, he appeared in numerous films, but his portrayal of Marty Piletti in the 1955 romantic film drama "Marty" won the Academy Award for Best Actor. The film was nominated for eight Oscars, winning four, including also Best Picture.

In the 1969 movie "Midnight Cowboy" both the main actors, Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight, were nominated for Best Actor but they lost out to John Wayne in "True Grit". Walter Pidgeon was nominated for Best Actor for his role as Clem Miniver in the movie "Mrs. Miniver" but lost out to James Cagney in "Yankee Doodle Dandy".

She won the Academy Award for Best Actress in the 1947 drama film "Gentlemen's Agreement" opposite Gregory Peck. Dorothy Malone (1924-2018) was an American actress who played roles opposite Frank Sinatra, Humphrey Bogart, Joel McCrea, Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, Randolph Scott and a host of other other well known actors. It was her role as Marylee Hadley in the 1956 movie "Written on the Wind" opposite Rock Hudson, Lauren Bacall and Robert Stack that she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Shirley MacLaine (b. 1934) is an American actress, singer, dancer of film and television. She is the sister of Warren Beatty. Shirley won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in the comedy drama film "Terms of Endearment".

She received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2018, together with Denis Mukwege (Democratic Republic of the Congo).

Vyacheslav Molotov (1890-1986) was a Soviet politician and diplomat from 1921-1957. Molotov was one of the architects of the "Molotov- Rippentrop Pact" of 1939 that divided up Europe between Russia and Nazi Germany. Russia invaded Finland in November 1939 which became known as the "Winter War". The Finns were outnumbered 10:1 but held up the Russian advance. It was during this period that the Finnish soldiers developed a simple petrol bomb in a bottle that was thrown to stop the advance of tanks, causing great damage to the tanks. It was known to be successful and they called it a "Molotov cocktail".

Benito Mussolini (1883-1945) was an Italian fascist dictator and friend of Adolph Hitler. In 1945 while trying to escape to Switzerland he and his mistress were executed by Italian partisans at Mezzegra in the Province of Como. Bernard Montgomery (1887-1976) was a British Army officer who participated in both WWI and WWII. He led the British Eighth Army in the Western Desert that stopped the advance of the Germany Army towards Cairo. He was affectionately known by his soldiers as "Monty". Chiaki Matsuda (1896-1995) was an admiral in the Imperial Japanese navy and became the last surviving Japanese admiral from WWII, in which he had captained the battleship "Yamato".
