The Scantron test format was introduced in 1972. It is primarily a multiple choice test format that utilizes optical mark recognition to score using a special imaging scanner. Scantrons have become popular in high schools and colleges across the United States. Earlier versions of the test required students to use a #2 pencil only. Nowadays, students can use either a pen or pencil to complete a Scantron test.

However, it would be wiser to use pencil, so you can more easily correct any mistakes.

The SAT is a standardized test used for college admissions. Originally known as the Scholastic Aptitude Test, it was first introduced in 1926. The better a student does on the SAT gives him/her a better chance of being accepted to a more selective college or university. An alternative to the SAT is the ACT (American College Testing) exam.

Answer: GED

A GED (General Educational Development) is a certification offered in the United States in lieu of a high school diploma. It is available to those people who for whatever reason (academic, health, etc.) were unable to graduate high school. Possessing a Certificate of High School Equivalency after passing the GED would place the person in a better position when applying for a job.

However, job opportunities would still be limited to someone who does not possess a standard high school diploma. The GED is now mostly done electronically, but you are still asked to bring a pencil to use on scratch paper.
