Answer: 800

Skye is probably the best known of the Scottish islands, along with Harris, Lewis, Iona and the Shetlands and Orkneys but there are almost 800 islands in total, of which about 130 are inhabited.
2. On which Scottish island group can you catch the world's shortest commercial passenger flight?

Answer: Orkney

If you catch a plane between Westray and Papa Westray in Orkney, you'll just be in the air for a few minutes.
3. Scotland holds the world record for the longest echo in a man-made structure, but which structure was successfully used for the record attempt?

Answer: Inchindown oil tanks

The Inchindown oil tanks are a disused underground oil depot in Invergordon, in Ross-shire. They were constructed between 1938 and 1941, as a bomb-proof supply of furnace fuel oil to the Royal Naval base at Invergordon. In 2014, acoustics expert Trevor Cox entered the tanks, fired a gun and, 75 seconds later, found that he had set a new world record for the longest echo in a man-made structure.

In 1924, the London and North Eastern Railway officially renamed the 10.00 Special Scotch Express linking Edinburgh and London in both directions as the Flying Scotsman, which had been its unofficial name since the 1870s. In addition to this, a recently built locomotive numbered 1472 and subsequently renumbered 4472 was named after the service and displayed at the British Empire Exhibition of 1924.

Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868 - 1928) was an architect, designer and water colourist. His work, alongside that of a number of colleagues, including his wife Margaret MacDonald, was influential on European design movements and was praised by leading European modernists. He is one of the most important figures of the British Art Nouveau style.

The Gorbals is a residential area in the city of Glasgow, on the south bank of the River Clyde. By the late 19th century, it had become densely populated but post WWII development has seen the area's population become substantially smaller.

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is an annual event comprising military tattoos performed by British Armed Forces, Commonwealth and international military bands, and performance teams on the Esplanade of Edinburgh Castle. The event is held each August as part of the Edinburgh Festival.
