Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When it's not being stolen, Edvard Munch's famous paintings "The Scream" hang in the National Gallery and the Munch Museum in which Scandinavian capital?

Answer: Oslo

The painting is called "Der Schrei der Natur" which is the German name Munch gave it. There are actually two paintings of "The Scream" and two pastel versions. The paintings in the National Gallery and Munch Museum in Oslo are the ones that have been stolen on more than one occasion.

The painting was stolen in 1994 from the National Gallery on the day the Winter Olympics opened in Lillehammer, Norway. The incident was seen as an embarrassment not only because it happened when the entire world was gathered in Norway but also because the thieves taunted the police thanking them for poor security. The painting was recovered a few months later undamaged.

It was "The Scream" from the Munch Museum that was stolen by armed robbers in 2004, along with Munch's "Madonna." They were recovered two years later with some water damage to the Scream in the bottom left corner but nothing to extreme. Experts said that the damage was irreparable.
2. In the film series "Scream," Ghostface likes to call potential victims on the phone and ask them what question?

Answer: What's your favorite scary movie?

The "Scream" movies often begin with a pretty girl watching TV who then receives a phone call asking what her favorite scary movie is. She is then killed by Ghostface. Drew Barrymore who played Casey Becker in the first movie was the first one to be killed in this manner. Ghostface's first kill was her boyfriend Steve Orth played by Kevin Patrick Walls.
3. Screamo, a type of hardcore punk music, originated in the Che Café in which U.S. city?

Answer: San Diego

Screamo originated in 1991 in the Che Café which hosted many screamo bands. "Tin Cans with Strings to You", a 1996 album by the band Far, is considered the first major screamo album.

Screamo is characterized by usually dark lyrics that are scream-sung. The tempo is often chaotic and there are few, if any, written rules of screamo. It has been described as Emo music.
4. Where would one be able to find a Wilhelm scream?

Answer: In a classic movie

The Wilhelm scream is the classic scream that an actor does when something shocking or dramatic happens. It first occurred in the 1951 film "Distant Drums" although it is named after a character in the 1953 movie "The Charge at Feather River." It has been used hundreds of times, including the "Star Wars" franchise.

The scream is a stock sound and not produced by the actor each time. Initially it was used for dramatic scenes but it has since become more comedic and cliché in use.
5. If you were floating in space not only would no one be able to hear you scream, you wouldn't physically be able to scream.

Answer: True

Sound needs a medium (like air) to travel through. There is no such medium in the vacuum that is outer space. Because of this, no one would hear you scream. In addition, the scream wouldn't even leave your mouth.

If you weren't floating through space but instead on a spaceship with other people, they would be able to hear you scream because of the air inside the ship.
6. Which famous environmental artist, who often worked with his wife Jeanne-Claude, once said "the work of art is a scream of freedom"?

Answer: Christo

Christo and Jeanne-Claude were known for their art on a grand scale. They once wrapped the Pont Neuf Bridge in Paris, for example. They were somewhat controversial. Some of their projects required large areas of public places to be cornered off and often interrupted the day to day movements of the average human being.

They usually claimed they did these projects for art's sake but on occasion, some pieces were political in nature.
7. For which brand of ice cream was the 1927 song "Ice Cream (I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Ice Cream)" written?

Answer: It was not created for any brand of ice cream

The song was not written for any brand of ice cream but rather as a novelty song. It was sung by Howard Johnson, Billy Moll and Robert King. The popularity of the tune spread and it was widely covered by jazz musicians.
8. What role does the character Scream play in Marvel Comics "Spider-Man" series?

Answer: Super villain

Scream's alter ego is Donna Diego. She was a member of the Life Foundation, a group of super villains dedicated to providing for the wealthy should the U.S. be destroyed during the Cold War. Scream could make webs like Spider-Man and also possessed camouflage abilities.
9. Scream Pubs, bars usually found near universities, are popular with young people and students in Japan.

Answer: False

Scream pubs are popular in the United Kingdom. They are so named because the first of the kind was called "It's a Scream" and featured posters of Munch's "The Scream" which was popular with students. Scream pubs typically have loyalty cards that give patrons some kind of discounts on drinks and food.
10. A screamer is a type of mark or catch in Australian Rules Football that has what characteristic?

Answer: The catcher jumped on another player's back to make the catch

The screamer is also called the spectacular mark and players who accomplish it are called speckies. The player who was jumped on is called the stepladder. Frequently, players who accomplish this feat often win the Mark of the Year Award.
