Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What are nittles?

Answer: the punctuation marks in comics used to denote swear words

Another term for these is grawlixes. When people in comics are shown to be intoxicated or dizzy with stars and/or circles - those marks are called squeans. Blurgits are the curved lines that denote the movement of a character's limbs.
2. After using all of her lifelines, a "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" contestant answered that an elephant was larger than the moon.

Answer: false

This rapidly spread news story was originally written by BSNews.org, a fake news website. The story was accompanied with a screenshot of the alleged woman, Kathy Evans from Idaho, on the show.
In actuality, the screenshot shown was a doctored-up shot of a contestant on the UK version of the show, Fiona Wheeler, who ended up winning 32,000 pounds.
3. Who was Pogo the Clown?

Answer: Convicted serial killer John Wayne Gacy, Jr.

John Wayne Gacy, Jr. was convicted of murdering 33 males between the ages of 14-21 in the late 1970s. He often threw parties for his neighbors and dressed up as a clown, using the nickname Pogo the Clown. The majority of the bodies were buried on his property. He is also known for his numerous oil paintings he painted while on death row. John Wayne Gacy was executed on May 10, 1994
4. Who died on the exact same day (January 30, 1948) as Orville Wright?

Answer: Mohandas Gandhi

Wright died of a heart attack at the age of 76. His brother Wilbur had passed away from typhoid fever complications in May of 1912 at the age of 45. Their famous first airplane ride was shorter than the length of the wingspan of today's 747 jets.

Gandhi was assassinated by Nathuram Godse, a Hindu radical. Most of his ashes were spread in major rivers, such as the Thames and the Nile, upon his own wishes.
5. What is cactus plugging?

Answer: Vandalizing a cactus

Cactus plugging usually involves filling a drained cactus with explosives, but some people shoot the cactus repeatedly. In 1982, a man named David Grundman died when an arm of the cactus he was plugging fell on him. Vandalizing saguaro cacti is illegal in Arizona, as it takes them many years to grow. These cacti typically do not grow a side arm until they're at least 70 years old.
6. Which country was the first European country to have a McDonald's?

Answer: Netherlands

The restaurant opened in 1967 in Amsterdam. McDonald's has come a long way since the Ray Kroc turned the McDonald brothers' California hamburger stand into a franchise, opening the first one in Illinois in 1955. McDonald's can be found in at least 120 countries worldwide. Netherlands, who only beat Germany by a couple of months, was actually the ninth country to have a McDonald's. Both Japan and Costa Rica beat it!
7. Which of these things do humans have in common with only one other animal, armadillos?

Answer: Both can contract leprosy.

Leprosy, caused by Mycobacterium leprae, a bacterium, has been around since 600 BC. The most common parts of the body that are affected are the skin, mucous membranes, and the nerves. Untreated it can cause permanent damage.
Since the bacteria that causes leprosy can not be grown on artificial media, some scientists use the nine-banded armadillo to study it.
Armadillos are also used for scientific purposes due to their unique births. Every birth is four identical quadruplets!
8. What is interesting about Sideshow Bob from "The Simpsons"?

Answer: His criminal number is the same as Jean Valjean from "Les Miserables"

Sideshow Bob, criminal number 24601, has not sung the famous work song from the musical. He is voiced by Kelsey Grammer, from "Frasier". His full character name is Robert Underdunk Terwilliger, and is known for his work as Krusty the Clown's assistant, along with his homicidal tendencies.
9. Which of these actors was voted Worst Actor by the Golden Raspberry Awards?

Answer: All of them

Yes, that's right! Adam Sandler was awarded Worst Actor of 1999 for his performance in "Big Daddy". Ben Affleck for "Gigli" in 2003, as if we didn't see that one coming. Kevin Costner got the Razzie for Worst Actor in 1991 for "Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves".
10. Who are the Philadelphia KiXX?

Answer: Philadelphia's professional indoor soccer team

The KiXX were founded in 1995. Their colors are black, red and teal, and their mascot is SoccerRoo, a six-foot-tall kangaroo. The KiXX are part of the Major Indoor Soccer League. Their home stadium is the Wachovia Spectrum, the old home of the Flyers and 76ers.
