Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first reason marijuana became illegal is because it was a chemically addictive substance like caffeine, cocaine, heroine, alcohol and nicotine.

Answer: False

First of all, marijuana is not chemically but largely psychically addictive. Furthermore the fírst reason it was banned, is because the cotton growers wanted to get rid of the competition and lobbied against it in the 1930's.
2. How many feathers are needed on a badminton bird (shuttle) according to Badminton regulations? it is more than you think.

Answer: 16

Did you know it takes three animals to put together a shuttle? A goose wing has six feathers and you can not mix those from the left and right wings. Left wings are said to have stronger feathers.
3. How many lives (animals included) were destroyed by the first allied bomb thrown on Berlin in World War II?

Answer: 1

Amazingly the bomb hit the Berlin Zoo and killed one elephant. Poor thing. He had nothing to do with the war.
4. Does Antarctica have an international dialing code like 672 or something?

Answer: Only the Australian owned part.

The code is 672 indeed and resorts under the Australian external territories such as Australian Antarctic Territory and Norfolk Island.
5. Chicago's nickname is "Windy City". This is most probably because of:

Answer: Airhead politicians.

Some people still believe it has to do with the summer breezes but the phrase was already mentioned in the early 19th-century. The nickname arose in connection with the longwindedness of politicians in conventions. It is sometimes also used in connection with the city's many boosters who commended Chicago to the east and west coast.
You can find a lot more reason behind city nickname questions in my other quiz.
6. What is the name of Mickey Mouse in Italy?

Answer: Topolino.

Topo means mouse in Italian, the -lino addition makes it a friendly house mouse instead of a rat. Ratón is a Spanish mouse and Souriceau is a French mouse.
7. Which of these shocking items delivers a voltage of 500.000 Volts but will leave you alive intentionally?

Answer: Stun gun.

The Stun Gun, also known as "Taser" has a high voltage indeed but with a low current of 3mA. It would take 100mA to become deadly.
The eel flashes with 400V (with 1 Amp), and in ECT (Electro Convulsive Therapy) 225V is used (with 0.7 Amps). The lightning is at the other end with 30 million Volts with 100,000 Amps. It takes a lot of luck to survive a direct hit.
8. Which out of the following animals has the most powerful bite?

Answer: Snapper turtle

The reptiles win from the mammals in this chewing contest. The crocodile has the strongest jaw with a pressure well over 2500 pounds. The turtle is the best of the rest with 1004 biting pounds. The lion does about 700, the Rottweiler sinks his teeth in an arm with 350 pounds. Still hurts though.

It has been calculated that a great white shark has a biting force of 4000 pounds but that he simply never has to use it. That is only in theory, though. The shark does not need the excessive pressure because it has razor sharp teeth to bite off a bit of animal.
9. Which of the following statements best describes the speed of sound through a medium?

Answer: Sound travels quicker through water than through air.

Sound is a mechanical wave. It needs a medium to propagate and will not travel through a vacuum. Sound travels at different speed in different media. The speed of sound is determined by the density and compressibility of the medium. The denser and the more compressible, the faster the sound waves travel.

Therefore, the speed of sound is about four times faster in water than in air. In 20 Celsius air it is 344 meter per second, in distilled water 1498 meters per second.
10. One of these stories is false. Which one?

Answer: A man with a lump on his cheek went to a hospital. A spider had crawled into his tear duct and laid eggs in his sinus cavity and they hatched in his sinus.

The other three are actually true.
The child's bone was found in Whitney, Oxon by Ken Cope in 1993. Origin of the bone remains unknown.
The piece of thumb belonged to a Mr. Campos who had been preparing coleslaw in a in a salad shop in Tottenham Street, central London. When he cut off half his thumb he was rushed to hospital. No one thought of checking what had happened to the missing digit which ended up on the plate of nurse Rosemary Pothecary.
It is not uncommon to find hidden animals in fresh food. Fruit is also a favorite hiding place.
