Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I'm telling you that a cricket's ears are placed on their back legs. But am I trustworthy enough for the statement to be true? What do you think?

Answer: No

Come on, I wouldn't lie to you, at least not entirely. That was just a half of a lie, because a cricket's ears are, in fact, located on their legs, but on their front legs. More specifically just below the knee.
I wonder if that is the case with men too?
2. I've thoroughly calculated that 25% of the time I'm lying. That would mean that one of these four statements is untrue, can you identify which one?

Answer: Cereals were involved in inventing the microwave

Actually it was chocolate that helped. Well, helped and helped, I would like to see a chocolate bar come up with a scientific theory. It more inspired than helped. Here's what happened: The inventor of the microwave walked past a radar tube with the result that the chocolate bar he had in his pocket melted.
So, don't say that chocolate isn't useful (for things other than stuffing yourself full of it, that is).
3. I've always thought that the crocodile, the shark or something similar is the most dangerous animal in the world. But recently I read that it's this little animal that is considered the most dangerous, because of the diseases they can transmit... Which animal is it?

Answer: Housefly

It's true, I promise! "Stay away, kids! Why? You see that little, tiny peck in the air? That's the dreaded, the awful, the housefly!" It has earned that title for its habit of excreting animals' waste. Yuck! And because of that disgusting, disgusting (can't repeat how disgusting it is too many times) habit they transmit more diseases than any other animal.
And I thought bachelor pads were bad...
4. And speaking of dangerous animals, lets move on to the world that none of us tiny mortals will ever come close to: The world of celebrities! George Clooney has said that he will never get married and/or have children. Just like you shouldn't always believe me, two actresses didn't believe him and bet each an amount of money that he would be a father before the age of 40. Who are these two actresses?

Answer: Nicole Kidman & Michelle Pfeiffer

Oooh yes! They put in a chunk of change (aka $10,000)on this bet. A bet, I might add, they seem to have lost. George turned 40 the year of 2001, and as far as I know, no little Clooneys have been tripping around in that mansion of his.
But then again, you shouldn't trust celebrities!
5. If you have the a bit absurd interest of collecting beer coasters, then I'd say you are fascinated with tegestology. But do you take my word for it?

Answer: Yes

Thank you for believing in me if you answered yes, and shame on you if you answered no! I wouldn't lie to you (see, that was a lie right there).
Tegestology...and here I've gone wasting my time on my stamp collection, when I could have had so much more fun collecting beer coasters.
6. And now that we have arrived at such an interesting subject, alcohol, I thought I'd continue with it. Which is the odd one out (which is untrue)?

Answer: Magellan spent as much money on bourbon as on weapons when he was preparing for his trip around the world

Actually, he spent even more money on the purchase of a certain type of liquor than on weapons, but it wasn't bourbon. It was sherry. And they say we spend a lot of money on liquor today!
However, he wasn't the only explorer who seem to have had it in for this beverage. Christopher Columbus also had sherry with him on the boat when he discovered the "New World". Maybe if I drank sherry I'd also be a great explorer!
7. Have you ever had a Manhattan cocktail? Okay, it doesn't really matter whether you have or not. But I'm not just making small talk here. It just happens to be so that a very famous person's mother is attributed to the invention of today's popular Manhattan cocktail. And of course I know the answer to who that person is, but I want to enjoy the fact that you don't. Who is the famous son?

Answer: Winston Churchill

You can't come here and say you haven't heard of this guy. But if you haven't then I'll tell you that he was Prime Minister of Great Britain during most of World War II and between 1951-55.
There might have been similar drinks before in the Manhattan area, but it was an event hosted by Jennie Jerome (or Lady Randolph Churchill) that made this specific recipe known as The Manhattan cocktail. The cocktail was invented for the banquet at the Manhattan club in New York city that Lady Churchill hosted for Samuel Tilden, the presidential candidate.
The cocktail is made out of whiskey, sweet vermouth and bitters.
8. It's common practice that on a keyboard or typewriter some letters you write with your left hand and some with your right hand. I believe that the longest word you can write with your left hand is caressed. Is that true or false?

Answer: False

The longest word you can write with the "left hand-letters" is stewardesses, how ever someone succeeded to come up with that.
But I got you there didn't I? No? Why not!?
9. This is a question for those of you who have studied the "Guinness Book of World Records", and know it cover to cover (I know you're out there). What is the record for a time that a chicken has lived without its head?

Answer: 18 months

Yes, Mike the headless chicken (what a name! Poor chick) lived without his head for 18 months.
It was Monday, September 10, 1945, and a farmer named Lloyd Olsen and his wife were going to have chicken for supper since her mother was there. He went out to decapitate the chicken but he didn't really succeed in his task. One ear and most of the brain stem was still left. The chicken was saved!
But, kids, do not try this at home. And if you do, make sure you have parental supervision...
10. Somehow, someone has figured out that in one (though some people claim that there are three states) of America's 50 states there are no poisonous snakes. Which state?

Answer: Maine

How can they know that?! Have they met every snake in Maine? It's not like you can send a letter to every snake in Maine and ask: "Dear snake, we'd like to know what kind of species you are so we can know if there are any poisonous snakes in Maine".
Or can you?
As I said, there are two more states that are claimed by some to be free of these snakes, Alaska and Hawaii. I'm not going to guess which it is that is true, quite frankly I'm not smart enough to.
Maine is on the other hand the only state with just one syllable in its name and the only one to share borders with just one state.
11. The search engine Google gets some sort of request from every continent and country, every day. This includes Antarctica. Is this statement true or false?

Answer: True

Hmmm...? What are penguins really doing when we turn our backs on them?
Google is clearly getting more and more wide-spread. The verb "google" has actually been added to the Webster dictionary with the meaning: to use the Google search engine to obtain information on the Internet.
12. And again the compulsive liar in me needs to get out. Which one of the following statements are not true?

Answer: The human eye blinks an average of 10,000,000 times a year

No, we don't blink that much, although it sometimes feels like it. There are different answers to how many times we do in fact blink, all from 4.2 million times to 6,25 million times (the later one would mean that we blink an average of once every five seconds).
One blink generally takes about 100 to 150 milliseconds from you close your eyelid until you have opened it again.
13. Okay, are any of the most hazardous animals the ones I thought they would be? The world has turned upside down right before my eyes. Since the most poisonous animal in the world is of this sort...

Answer: Frog

A frog! I've been afraid of spiders all my life, but frogs are the most poisonous animal?! Okay, it's a specific kind of frog, but still! A frog! There are a couple of different names that label this group of frogs, such as the poison arrow frog, the poison dart frog or just simply poison frog. Most of the different species of frogs belonging to this group are not poisonous to humans or animals.

But then, of course, some are more poisonous than others. For example, just by touching the back of the golden poison dart frog with the tip of your tongue can be deadly.
14. Is it true that there are some courts in the U.S. where they've never reached the verdict innocent?

Answer: Yes

Not only in some American courts, but in ALL American courts. People can only be found guilty or not guilty, because of the fact that a person may not be innocent just because he doesn't get the verdict guilty.
This does not apply to all courts, for example is it not like this in the UK.
15. And before you get rid of me and my stupid questions, you just have to answer whether or not this statement is true: There actually isn't a term for the fear of alcohol!

Answer: False

I don't know why someone would fear something as good as alcohol(it's not the alcohol that is bad, it's the people who is influenced by it!). The fear is called methyphobia.

Thanks for taking my quiz and I hope you've enjoyed it (if so please tell me, nothing feels as good as flattering). But I guess I should say that criticism may be needed and is welcomed too. Sounds almost politically correct that way!
