Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. ANIMALS: What is another name for anableps?

Answer: Four-eyed fish

The anableps do not actually have four eyes. However, a band of tissue across the eyes makes it appear as though the eyes are split in two. This split helps these surface dwellers to see both above and below the water at the same time.
2. BRAIN TEASER: Find the part of the eye hidden in the following sentence: When peeling corn each one is husked to remove the silky green leafy material.

Answer: cornea

The cornea is the eye's protective outer layer. It also acts as 2/3 of the refractive part of the eye. Keratis is the inflammation of the cornea.
3. CHILDREN: How many eyes do you have if you add your eyes to a cyclop's eyes?

Answer: 3

A cyclops is a Greek and Roman mythological creature. According to myth he only has one eye because he traded the other with Hades, the god of the underworld, for the ability to see the future.
4. GENERAL KNOWLEDGE: Which of these cats, if it ever existed, is now extinct?

Answer: Sumxu

The Sumxu was a Chinese cat. It is said that these cats were both pets and used for food. Some say it may not have been a cat, but a cat-like creature. The last time one was seen was in 1938.
5. GEOGRAPHY: There are some places named Eye; are there any in the United Kingdom?

Answer: Yes

There are a few in fact. One is Eye, Suffolk which got its name from the Old English word for "island, land by water." There is also an Eye, Peterborough. And there is a village in Herefordshire also called Eye.
6. HUMANITIES: Who wrote the musical "The Evil Eye?"

Answer: Alfred J. Kuttner

"The Evil Eye" was a three-act musical set in Holland, St. Petersburg, and the Rhine River. It must not have been very popular as it only ran from January 16, 1899, to January 23, 1899, in New York. There were eight performances before it closed.
7. LITERATURE: Who wrote "The Bluest Eye"?

Answer: Toni Morrison

All three wrong answers wrote books with the word eye in them as well. Stephen King wrote "The Eyes of the Dragon" Dean Koontz wrote "From the Corner of His Eye" and Margaret Atwood wrote "Cat's Eye." "The Bluest Eye" is about an African-American girl named Pecola. Pecola grew up in 1941 and because of how she is treated due to her skin color she decides she wants blue eyes which she associates with white skin.
8. MUSIC: Which song with the word eye was in the movie "Rocky III?"

Answer: Eye of the Tiger

"Eye of the Tiger" was sung by Survivor. Sylvester Stallone originally wanted to use "Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen but was refused, so he asked Survivor to record a song for the movie. The other choices are also songs. "Eye of the Needle" was sung by Sia, "Eye in the Sky" was sung by The Alan Parsons Project, and "Eye Know" was performed by De La Soul.
9. RELIGION: In Song of Songs 1:15 (New International Version) what does the man compare the woman's eyes to?

Answer: Doves

Song of Songs is sometimes called Song of Solomon. It is found in the Old Testament in both the Protestant and Catholic Bibles. It is an intimate conversation between a newly married husband and wife.
10. WORLD: What does the Spanish idiom echar un ojo mean in English?

Answer: to look at something

Echar un ojo literally means to throw an eye. The conjugation for echar is: yo echo, tu echas, el/ella/usted echa, nostoros echamos, vosotros echáis and ellos/ellas/ustedes echan. The vosotros form is only used in Spain.
