Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the name of the first professional baseball team?

Answer: Cincinnati Redstockings

They started in 1869.
2. True or False: Billy The Kid was left-handed.

Answer: False

Some say he was a lefty, but was actually a right hander. The belief that he was left-handed was based on the position of his holster in the only known photo of the man. It was proved, by examination of the Winchester rifle in the photo, that this was a reverse image.

This means that the holster was in fact on Billy's right side, not the left as previously believed, and that he was in all probability right-handed.
3. In 1921, the Washington Pros won an NFL game 1-0 over the Rochester Jeffersons. How did the Pros score that one point?

Answer: The Jeffersons forfeited and the game was awarded 1-0 to the Pros

Though it is no longer recognized as such by the NFL, the Jeffersons were adjudged to have forfeited the game because they refused to play. The official reason was given that the snowy conditions were too dangerous but the Jeffersons' coach, Leo Lyons, claimed that the refusal was due to the Pros refusing to pay the guaranteed match fee that had been agreed in the match contract.

The NFL commissioner later ruled in the Jeffersons' favor, hence the forfeit no longer being on the record books.
4. In 2001, how tall was the world's tallest man, according to the Guinness World Records?

Answer: 8'11

Robert Wadlow started growing after a double hernia operation at age 2. By age 10, he was 6'5. He died in 1940 from a septic blister on his right ankle caused by a poorly fitting brace. He weighed 491 lbs., his shoes were 18 1/2 inches and he was buried in a casket measuring 10 ft. 9 in.
