"They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa" was written by Jerry Samuels, also known as Napoleon XIV. It was released in July 1966. The song is about an insane dog owner who is having delusions of being carried off to a mental institution, which is referred to as "Happy Home" or "Funny Farm".

Despite the happy face, Garland was battling her own personal demons. She had to work with a hypnotist just to finish the film. It would be her last picture with MGM as they released her from contract later that same year. "Happy Days" was a sitcom about the Cunninghams and their "greaser" friend, Arthur "Fonzie" Fonzarelli.

Ron Howard played Richie Cunningham; he has become one of Hollywood's elite directors and producers, with movies like "The Da Vinci Code," "Apollo 13," "Splash" and "Cocoon" in his credits.

Henry Winkler played Fonzie, who started out as a secondary character, but because of his popularity received top billing in 1980. He has continued acting in movies and on TV, and occasionally directs and produces.

The Happy Valley racecourse in Hong Kong was first opened in 1845 and is now one of the world's great horse-racing venues, owned by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, with meetings on most Wednesdays.

The word "Happyness" was how it was spelled on a mural in the film in front of his son's daycare center in Chinatown, San Francisco. During Gardner's tough year of sleeping in public restrooms with a small child while getting his qualifications to be a stockbroker, this word becomes symbolic. Actor Will Smith studied Gardner at work and Jaden Smith, his son played his son in the film.
