Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the 1978 movie release of 'Grease' starring Olivia Newton John as Sandy Olsson, who played the lead of Danny Zuko, the head T-Bird?

Answer: John Travolta

Olivia Newton John (Sandy) and John Travolta (Danny) play teen lovers in this musical. Henry Winkler was busy as the Fonz on Happy Days, Jeff Conaway played Kenickie and Maxwell Caulfield was from the sequel Grease 2. The T birds were the name of their 'gang'.

2. Jolly good! What is the name of the most southerly point of mainland Britain, old chap?

Answer: Lizard Point

Often mistaken to be Lands End, Lizard Point is the most southerly point in England. It is home to England's rarest breeding bird the Cornish Chough. It is also famous for the local stone, which is dark green with streaks of red and white. (I like the fact it's lighthouse was built in 1725!)

3. What country (based on 2006 energy statistics) exported the most oil and energy to the United States on a average daily basis?

Answer: Canada

In 2006 Canada exported to the United States, 2.3 million barrels of oil, 3.6 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and 41.2 billion kilowatts hours of electricity, every day. (Oil exports to the USA for April 2007 were 1,909 million barrels per day) Wow! I didn't know we had that much oil! I should have bought petroleum stocks years ago!

Sources? CIA! yep THAT CIA, and the Government of Canada. (CIA Factbook and Canadian energy statistics)

4. What are the 4 symbols on the city of Glasgow Scotland's coat of arms that all relate to the city's founder Saint Mungo? Need a small hint? (Yes please! A hazel branch with a songbird, and a fishmonger ringing his signaling device!)

Answer: tree, bird, fish, bell.

In 1866, the city of Glasgow received permission for a coat of arms, and used a number of symbols and emblems which go back much further in it's history, representing stories in the life of the city's founder St. Mungo (around about 540 AD) The tree represents a hazel branch miraculously set on fire by St. Mungo, when the church fire went out. The bird represents a robin brought back to life by the Saint. The Queen's gold ring was lost in the river, St. Mungo sent a monk to catch a fish, and he did and the ring was found in the fish's mouth. The bell represents the one given to St Mungo by the Pope. Hence, tree, bird, fish, bell!

5. The Australian Flag has a blue background with stars and the Union Flag or Union Jack on the top left corner. How many stars are on the Australian Flag?

Answer: 6

The Southern Cross consists of five stars on the blue background of the flag. The large seven pointed Commonwealth Star represents the states of Australia and is on the left, under the Union Jack (for a total of six). Angel lives in Coppabella, QLD, Australia. QLD stand for Queensland. It's not to be confused with Coppabella, NSW, Australia, which stands for New South Wales.

6. What was the first capital city of the Confederate States of America before it was moved to Richmond, Virginia?

Answer: Montgomery, Alabama

Montgomery was founded in 1819. It was the original capital city of the Confederate States of America, before the capital was changed to Richmond, Virginia in 1861. Danville, Virginia was the last capital lasting but a few days in April 1865. Florida was a Confederate state. Montgomery is also where Rosa Parks refused to give up her bus seat to a white person, that some say started the civil rights movement in the late 1950s .

7. Peace Love and Groovy! Where was the original 1969 Woodstock festival held?

Answer: Bethel, New York, USA.

It never happened in Woodstock! The big concert took place on Max Yasgur's farm in the rural town of Bethel, New York, 50 miles to the south. Woodstock's 1994 25th year reunion was held in Saugerties, New York, miles to the east. And Woodstock 1999 took place in Rome, New York. (On a former Air Force Base) Far out man!

8. The HBO movie 'By Dawn's Early Light' was a nuclear war thriller released in 1990. A terrorist group steal and explode a nuclear device over a Russian city, starting a chain reaction that results in a attack on the USA. Who played the President of The United States in this movie? You wont have to look on Moonbase Alpha for him this time!

Answer: Martin Landau

Martin Landau plays the President of the United States, you may remember him from the television series 'Space 1999' where he was the commander of Moonbase Alpha, when the moon was blown out of Earths orbit and sent hurtling through space by ( you guessed it, a nuclear explosion) Powers Boothe is Major Cassidy the ' captain' of a B-52 bomber, McGruff is a Funtriv Editor,(Ed = Editior, Ed McGruff, get it?) Pat Skipper was a Secret Service Agent in the movie.

9. My three cats just won't let me forget about them. High maintenance loving is required! Snowshoe is my loyal orange tom cat, but he is also a polydactyl cat! Poor old cat! Polydactyl means he has a unique feature. Does he have:

Answer: Extra Toes

Normal cats have five toes on each front paw and four toes on each hind paw. Polydactyl cats may have up to seven digits on the front and hind paws, It's a genetic condition and doesn't seem to bother him. In fact with his big feet (hence his name), he is more agile than the other two cats. He scoops up food with his front paws, raises the paw and eats out of it! ( I think he has watched me shovel food down like that too many times...) He has 5 toes on the back paws and 7 on the front right 6 on the left. In past times, cats with polydactyly were the favorite cats of witches.

10. There are more beef cattle in Alberta, Canada than there are people.

Answer: True

The population of Alberta, Canada, in January 2006 was over 3,306,400 million people and over 5.5 million beef cattle. That would mean everyone in Alberta would get a steer each for the freezer, with lots left over for next year. Sturdy has 300 cattle on her farm. Lotta steaks! Who's bringing the beer?
