Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the maximum number of Friday the 13ths possible in one calendar year, including leap years?

Answer: 3

A regular year can start on any of the 7 days of the week, beginning with January 1st. This includes leap years. This leaves 14 possible "patterns" for the 13th of each month. If you work this out on paper, you'll see that the 13th of each consecutive month is delayed the next month by the number of days above 28 (e.g. 3 for Jan 31 etc.) No matter how you work the pattern, the maximum number of times ANY day of the week appears on a specific DATE of the month is 3.
2. Which explorer was killed in 1521 during a fight between local natives while on the Spice Islands?
