John Caldwell Calhoun was born on March 18, 1782 in South Carolina. He graduated from Yale in 1804. As a politician, he was first a nationalist but in the 1830s he turned into a States Righter, opponent of strong government and secessionist. He was the 7th Vice President of the USA, mostly remembered for his service in Andrew Jackson's cabinet. During the South Carolina Nullification Crisis, Calhoun supported his home state's decision to declare the protective tariffs invalid. Calhoun died on March 31, 1850.

It has been said that the whole American South is his grave.

Despite his failure, Pontiac continued fighting his enemies for more than two years, Finally, in 1766, he met with the British Superintendent of Indian Affairs and the two agreed to stop fighting. Three years later, he was assassinated by a Peoria warrior.
