1. Which of the following fells is not visible from Styhead tarn?

Answer: Yewbarrow

Yewbarrow is blocked from view by Great Gable. Styhead tarn is dominated by Great End and Great Gable with the lesser known Seathwaite Fell facing Great Gable across the borrowdale end of Styhead pass.
2. If I am on the summit of Helvellyn and begin walking in a southerly direction, what is the name of the second mountain I will come to?

Answer: Dollywagon Pike

Dollywagon Pike is the last mountain on the Helvellyn range before the long steep descent to Grisedale tarn. White Side and Raise are both north of Helvellyn.
3. Which of the following pubs is in Keswick?

Answer: The Four In Hand

The Four In Hand faces the large George Fisher's store in Keswick. The Golden Rule is in Ambleside, The Brittania Inn in Elterwater and The Sun Inn is to be found in Pooley Bridge.

Answer: 2949

Great Gable is one of the most famous mountains in the Lake District. It is unsurprising given that it dominates the head of not just one valley but four; Wasdale, Ennerdale, Buttermere valley and Borrowdale. It also boasts the famous Napes Needle and Sphinx rock.
5. Which of the following mountains is furthest south?

Answer: Dow Crag

Dow Crag is an outlier of the Coniston group of fells. Wetherlam is in the northen part of the Coniston group and can be climbed from Little Langdale as well as Coniston itself. Pike o Blisco is one of the Langdale fells that rises above Blea tarn. Fairfield has one of the most famous Lakeland horseshoes named after it.

The Fairfield group lies south of Grisedale tarn and the Helvellyn range and is north of Ambleside.
6. If I wanted to climb Scafell Pike from Wasdale head, which of the following paths/routes would I take?

Answer: Brown Tongue gill

The corridor route begins at Styhead tarn and leads to Lingmell col (between Scafell Pike and Lingmell). The Brown Tongue Gill route starts at Wasdale head and meets the corridor route at Lingmell col. Moses Trod is a route between Honistor hause and Great Gable.

It is allegedly named after a quarryman and illicit still owner that used the path. Taylor Gill Force is a route up to Styhead tarn from Borrowdale that provides an alternative to the 'staircase' of the Styhead pass.
7. Gamlin End is a mountain in which ridge?

Answer: High Stile

Gamlin End is a name not often used for the mountain that faces Haystacks across Scarth Gap. The High Stile ridge is to be found towering between Buttermere and the Ennerdale valley.
8. From the summit of Robinson, which of the following can not be seen?

Answer: Gunson Knott

Gunson Knott is also known as the Fifth Crinkle on Crinkle Crags.
9. Which of the following mountains is not included in the Fairfield Horseshoe?

Answer: Seat Sandal

Seat Sandal is separated from the Fairfield horsehoe and the Helvellyn ridge by Grisedale tarn.
10. Which of the following is NOT a Lakeland fell?

Answer: Winder

Winder is actually in the Howgills. All of the others are, of course, in the Lake District.
