Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This town is on the Ord River in the Kimberley. It is near Mirima National Park and was home to one of the largest diamond mines in the world.

Answer: Kununurra

The Kimberley Region, of which Kununurra is the chief town, is an isolated but beautiful area. Particularly notable are the hollow-trunked boab trees. Nearby to Kununurra is the fragile Purnululu National Park, home of the Bungle Bungles, strange mounds in the shape of striped bee-hives.
2. Kettering is in which Australian state?

Answer: Tasmania

Kettering is about 35 km south of Hobart on the Channel Highway, overlooking the D'Entrecasteaux Channel. Across the water is Bruny Island, which can be reached by ferry. The area around Kettering is an apple growing region.
3. This inner suburb of Canberra is south east of Parliament House. It contains Canberra's railway station and the Canberra Railway Museum, which houses one of Australia's oldest locomotives dating from 1878.

Answer: Kingston

Kingston and the adjacent suburb of Manuka are good shopping precincts. Locomotive 1210, the first steam locomotive to run to Canberra, is currently housed in the Canberra Railway Museum
4. Near the Murray River between Swan Hill and Echuca lies this town. Surrounding marshes are large breeding sites for ibis.

Answer: Kerang

The marshes at Kerang aren't just for ibis. Other birds breed here too. The ibis help protect the agriculture industry by keeping out locusts.
5. This town has a large population of Cornish ancestry after a large number of Cornish migrated during the days of copper mining. This town is the largest on the Yorke Peninsula.

Answer: Kadina

The mining industry still serves Kadina well, namely with tourism. Each year, a Cornish Festival, called Kernewek Lowender, is held.
6. This is the Northern Territory's fourth largest town, with a population of just 8,000. It is at the junction of the Victoria and Stuart Highways and sits on a river of the same name.

Answer: Katoomba

Katoomba is the chief town of the Blue Mountains. There are three million visitors each year. Some other major nearby towns in the Blue Mountains are Blackheath, Leura, Wentworth Falls, Lawson, and Hazelbrook.
