Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Springfield is the number one town name in the United States. Which state has two Springfields, a city named Bayonne and a famous boardwalk?

Answer: New Jersey

There are towns named Springfield in Burlington County and Union County, New Jersey. The boardwalk in the summer resort town of Atlantic City has been the subject of songs and movies. There is also a third Springfield in New Jersey but it is a neighborhood in the city of Newark.
2. If you're looking for a big, bustling Springfield, you've come to the wrong place here! Which small Springfield is in a small state with cities named Concord and Manchester and ski areas named Wildcat and Cannon?

Answer: New Hampshire

Some of the trails at Wildcat Mountain and Cannon Mountain ski areas in New Hampshire are a lot more frightening than living in the town of Springfield. With barely more than 1,000 residents it is a quintessential small New England town, and it has several beautiful little lakes and ponds within the town limits.
3. From this Springfield you could travel to watch games by the Broncos, ski at Vail Mountain or climb Pike's Peak. Which state are we visiting?

Answer: Colorado

This Springfield is in the southeast corner of Colorado. It got its name from the original settlers who arrived there from Springfield, Missouri in 1888 or 1889. From Springfield you can travel northwest to Pike's Peak, home to a famous automobile hill climb race, or continue on to Denver to see professional sports or climb to near the Continental Divide to ski at Vail.
4. Naming towns Springfield started in this state in which your sox may be red and you can get some baked beans in a city named Boston. Which state is it?

Answer: Massachusetts

Springfield, Massachusetts was settled in 1636 and incorporated in 1852. The song "Springfield Mountain", often considered the first American ballad, was composed near the town. The Red Sox play baseball in the state's capital, Boston, home of Boston baked beans.
5. The movie about the Simpsons premiered here in the state known for maple syrup and covered bridges with towns named Burlington, Bennington and Montpelier. Which Springfield are we in now?

Answer: Vermont

The producers of "The Simpsons Movie" held a competition for where to show the premiere and the town of Springfield, Vermont won. The supposed location of the Simpsons' Springfield was a mystery for a long time. Vermont produces more maple syrup than any other U.S. state and is known for its rustic covered bridges.
6. This town used to be the county seat of Seward County but became a ghost town. You will find more to do in other towns in the state like Wichita, Topeka or even Dodge City. Where is this Springfield located?

Answer: Kansas

Seward County, Kansas, was formed in 1873. Fargo Springs and Springfield both wanted to be the county seat. Two elections which were bitterly disputed sent the case to the Kansas Supreme Court and Springfield won. It didn't do much good, both towns were bypassed by railroads and so were abandoned before 1900; Liberal is now the County Seat.
7. This Springfield is the home to a former president, although you may be more familiar with a city named Chicago. Where are we now?

Answer: Illinois

Abraham Lincoln, the 16th U.S. president, wasn't born in Springfield, Illinois, but settled there as a young man. The town was originally named Calhoun in 1818, after a U.S. senator from South Carolina but he fell out of favor so in 1832 they renamed it Springfield, after Springfield, Massachusetts, which was considered a prosperous, forward-thinking town. Springfield became Illinois' capital in 1839.
8. True to its name, this Springfield was named for a spring in a field found by pioneers passing through. It's near Eugene, in a state with impressive mountains like Mount Hood and a well-regarded wine-growing region. Which state is it?

Answer: Oregon

Springfield is in the Willamette Valley, one of the principal wine-grape growing regions of west central Oregon. It was settled by the Briggs family in 1848. It ranks as the second most populous community in Lane County. Its motto is "Proud History, Bright Future". In 2012, "The Simpsons" creator, Matt Groening said that the Springfield in the show was in Oregon, where he grew up.
9. This state has five towns named Springfield. We better have good route directions to find the one we want! Maybe we'd have better luck finding Madison, Milwaukee or Green Bay. Which state would that be?

Answer: Wisconsin

To find which Springfield we wanted in Wisconsin we better know which county it's in; knowing the Zip Code would probably help, too. Four of the five are in the southern half of the state. Madison is the state's capital, Milwaukee is its largest city and the Packers play professional American football in the city of Green Bay.
10. Here's a Springfield that might be pleasant to visit. It's near the shores of Lake Pontchartrain in a state where the capital is named after a red stick, the biggest city is called "The Big Easy" and they have parishes instead of counties. Where are we now?

Answer: Louisiana

Named for all the springs in the area, Springfield, Louisiana is a very small town in the southeast part of the state, where the counties are known as parishes, following the tradition of when Louisiana belonged to France before being purchased by the United States. Baton Rouge (meaning red stick in French) is the capital and New Orleans is known as the Big Easy.
