1. Finding unusual town names takes some effort and is certainly no accident. By the way, where is the town of Accident located?

Answer: Maryland

Accident is located in Garrett County in western Maryland. In 2000, it had a population of approximately 350. The town's name goes back to 1750 when King George II granted 600 acres of land to George Deakins in western Maryland. Mr. Deakins had two independent surveyors locate the best 600 acres in the area. Surprisingly, each surveyor marked out nearly the same 600 acres and used the same tree as the surveying starting point. Deakins named his land "The Accidental Tract".
2. You may ask why I created this quiz. Well, I wanted to know where the town of Why is located. Where is Why located?

Answer: Arizona

Why is located in Pima County about 80 miles west of Tucson. It has a population in 2000 of about 5000. The town formed at the "Y" shaped intersection of State highways 85 and 86. Originally the area was known as "The Y". When residents wanted a Post Office, the State of Arizona said the town could not be named as a letter. Hence, "Y" became Why.

Santa Claus is located in southern Indiana about 80 miles west of Louisville, Kentucky. In 2000, it had a population of about 2000.

Answer: Alaska

North Pole is located about 14 miles southeast of Fairbanks. It was incorporated as a town in 1953 and had a population of approximately 1600 in 2000.

Jupiter was a fishing and trapping village that formed in the early 1900s. It was incorporated as a township in 1925. It is located along the Atlantic coast of Florida north of West Palm Beach. In 2000, it had a population of about 39,000.

Originally settled in 1891, Happy was named after nearby Happy Draw so named because cowboys on the trail were happy to find water there. Happy is located in Swisher County in the Texas panhandle about 35 miles south of Amarillo. It had a population of approximately 650 in 2000. Happy calls itself the "Town without a Frown".

Hell is an unincorporated town located in Livingston County about 20 miles northwest of Ann Arbor. Its population in 2000 was approximately 270. Legend has it that the town was named by an early settler named George Reeve. When asked what to call his place, he supposedly replied, "I don't care, you can name it Hell if you want". The town officially became Hell in 1841.

Normal is located in McLean County and had a population of approximately 45,300 in 2000. The town was incorporated in 1865 and was named after Illinois State Normal (Teachers) University, which in located in town.
