Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. RVLSTK (On the Columbia River) Which British Columbia city is this?

Answer: Revelstoke

Revelstoke sits along the Trans Canada Highway approximately 72 km west of Rogers Pass (Selkirk Mountains). Founded in the 1880s, Revelstoke was originally a mining town and a stop along the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) where it crossed the Columbia River. Once the Trans Canada Highway was constructed, access to the region greatly improved, and the powerful Revelstoke Dam was built soon after (in 1986) to harness the power of the Columbia.
2. DRMHLLR (Dinosaur Capital of the World) What Alberta town is this?

Answer: Drumheller

Founded in 1911, Drumheller can be found in the badlands of Eastern Alberta, within the Red Deer River Valley. The region immediately surrounding Drumheller is known as Dinosaur Valley, due to the many fossils found in the area. The Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology was established in 1985 and is the largest Alberta museum attraction, drawing over 350,000 visitors per year.
3. MS JW (Al Capone's Tunnels) Where in Saskatchewan?

Answer: Moose Jaw

Moose Jaw, in south central Saskatchewan, was founded in 1882 after the CPR established a station at the junction of the Moose Jaw and Thunder Creek. During the era of Prohibition, Moose Jaw's tunnels (built for an unused underground steam system) were used for rum-running. Moose Jaw is also the home to the Canadian Forces Air Base that houses the Snowbirds aerobatic flying team.
4. CHRCHLL (Deep Sea Port) Which Manitoba town?

Answer: Churchill

On the western shore of Hudson Bay in the north of Manitoba, at the mouth of the Churchill River, lies the town of Churchill, founded in 1931 when the a rail line was extended from The Pas to reach deep water access. The port became an important economic transport link for the prairie provinces, allowing shipping from the center of the country. Churchill is also known as the "Polar Bear Capital of the World".
5. MSSSSG (Lester B. Pearson International Airport) Which city in Ontario?

Answer: Mississauga

Today considered part of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), Mississauga was created out of the amalgamation of smaller towns in 1968 as the Town of Mississauga, and just six years later made another amalgamation to grow in size and be incorporated as a city.

In the northern part of the city lies Canada's busiest airport (Lester B. Pearson International), through which 47 million people travel every year.
6. GTN (National Capital Region) What city in Québec?

Answer: Gatineau

Named for the river that runs through it, Gatineau was established as a village in 1933, upgraded to a town in 1946 and a city in 1975. Along with Ottawa (which is across the Ottawa River and the provincial border with Ontario), Gatineau is included in the metropolitan area of the National Capital Region.
7. MNCTN (Maritime 'Hub City') What New Brunswick city?

Answer: Moncton

Founded in 1698 by French Acadians, Moncton can be found at the geographical center of the Maritime Provinces, which is how it earned its nickname as the 'Hub City'. Even though Moncton is not the provincial capital, it is the largest city by population, due largely to its central location and corresponding economic importance.
8. LNNBRG (Bluenose) Where in Nova Scotia?

Answer: Lunenburg

Lunenburg, located on the south shore of Nova Scotia, to the southwest of Halifax, was founded in 1753 and was built on the fishery and ship-building industries. The historic center of the town has been designated a National Historic Site of Canada, as well as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
9. SMMRSD (College of Piping & Celtic Performing Arts) What city found on Prince Edward Island?

Answer: Summerside

Summerside was founded in the early 1800s, but was not incorporated as a town until 1877 and a city until 1995. P.E.I. has a strong Celtic heritage, and that is reflected in the College of Piping and Celtic Performing Arts of Canada, which was established in the early 1990s.
10. CRNR BRK (Northernmost Atlantic City) Which city in Newfoundland & Labrador?

Answer: Corner Brook

Corner Brook is the second-largest city on the island of Newfoundland (by population) and acts as the center of commerce for the norther and western parts of the island. Corner Brook was founded as a planned community in 1956 at the mouth of the Humber River, although the history of the region goes back just a bit further to when Captain James Cook first surveyed the region in 1767.
