Answer: Hadrian

Building started on Hadrian's wall in 122AD. It stretched from the Irish Sea right across Britain to the River Tyne on the North Sea, and was 80 Roman miles or 117.5 km long. It was intended to keep out the wild tribes from the north of Britain and was at the northern edge of the Roman Empire.

Answer: Northern Ireland

The giant's causeway is an amazing sight in County Antrim not to be missed when visiting Northern Ireland. It is made up of approximately 40,000 hexagonal basalt columns which were the result of ancient volcanic activity. The legend is that it was built by a giant called Fionn mac Cumhaill to get to Scotland to fight a giant called Benandonner.

Answer: Scotland

At 1,345 metres above sea level Scotland's Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in the United Kingdom. It is the remains of a volcano which imploded millions of years ago. It is located at the western end of the Grampian mountains close to the town of Fort William, and is very popular with walkers and climbers.

Robin Hood is a legendry English folk hero who is said to have stolen from the rich to give to the poor. His group of outlaws are known as the 'Merry Men', and Robin is always depicted wearing Lincoln green. He has been the subject of many movies and has been played by many different actors including Errol Flynn.

Answer: Wales

Portmeirion was built by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis between 1925 and 1975. It is situated in Gwynedd and is a fantasy village built in an Italian style. The village is very popular with tourists and has been used as the location of many movies. Notably it was 'The Village' in the cult television series 'The Prisoner'
8. At which racecourse is the 'Grand National' held?

Answer: Aintree

The Grand National is an annual British steeple chase which takes place at Aintree near Liverpool. The course is approximately four miles long and has 30 fences over which the horses must jump. It is an event which looms large in British culture and many people who do not normally have any interest in the sport watch this race, and place bets on the result.
9. The citizens of which English city are often referred to as Scousers?

Answer: Liverpool

People from Merseyside are often called Scousers. It originally was used only for Liverpool people, but in the 1950s slum clearance led to many of the poorer people moving out to the surrounding area of Merseyside, and now is used to describe people from the whole of the Merseyside area.

The name comes from a stew called scouse which was widely eaten by the poor people of the area, and is very tasty.
10. In which country of the United Kingdom would you be able to visit Carrickfergus Castle?

Answer: Northern Ireland

Carrickfergus Castle is over 850 years old. It is situated on the northern shore of Belfast Lough, it is a marvellous fortress because it is surrounded on three sides by water. It is one of the best preserved medieval castles in the United Kingdom, and was used as a location in the very popular television series 'Game of Thrones'.
