Derby is the traditional county town of Derbyshire; Rolls-Royce is the second largest manufacturer of civil aircraft engines in the world, after General Electric Aviation.

The white cliffs, immortalised in song by Vera Lynn, are made of chalk. Today, Dover is a major cross-channel port, with ferries serving Boulogne, Calais and Dunkirk in France.

Darlington's place in railway history is commemorated in the Darlington Railway Centre and Museum. The town also has a strong connection with the Quaker movement, and the local soccer team, Darlington FC, are nicknamed "The Quakers".

Situated on the banks of the Firth of Tay, Dundee is nicknamed the City of Discovery after the RSS Discovery, Robert Falcon Scott's Antarctic exploration vessel, which was built in the city, and is now berthed there.
9. Which Scottish town is nicknamed the "Queen of the South", and contains a statue of the poet Robert Burns who lived there from 1791 until his death in 1796?

Answer: Dumfries

Dumfries, on the banks of the River Nith, was the traditional county town of Dumfriesshire until 1974. The local soccer team are called Queen of the South FC.
10. Which county town was the home of the novelist Thomas Hardy, and was the site of a "bloody assize" conducted by Judge Jeffreys in 1685?

Answer: Dorchester

The town of Casterbridge, in Hardy's novel 'The Mayor of Casterbridge', was based on Dorchester. Dorchester has been the county town of Dorset since 1305.
