Answer: Jubba River

The Jubba River figures extensively in Somalia's historic sophisticated trade network and the regional state of Jubaland is named after this river. The river begins at the border with Ethiopia and flows to the Somali Sea. Along the Jubba basin is a wealth of wildlife, including lions, cheetahs, giraffes, wild donkeys and alligators.

Answer: Laas Geel

In 2002 French archaeologists uncovered the rock art paintings at Laas Geel, found in a group of ten caves. Although the paintings were known to inhabitants of the area, they weren't known internationally until 2002. The paintings depict wildlife, decorated cows and bulls, and herders, who are believed to be the creators of the paintings.

The paintings were extremely well preserved and vivid in nature.

Possible locations for this ancient land include the Horn of Africa, the Arabian Peninsula and Sri Lanka.

Somaliland attempted to break away from Somalia during the 1980s and is now internationally recognized as an autonomous region of Somalia. In 1988 the capital city of Somaliland, Hargeisa, was bombed by the Somali Air Force. At the time, Hargeisha was the second largest city in Somalia and up to ninety percent of it was destroyed during the aerial attack.

The monument consists of a MiG-17 fighter jet, a Somalia Air Force jet that crashed nearby, and a woman who is looking up toward the sky holding the flag of Somaliland.
