Leif and his sailors named this piece of land Helluland which, when translated, means 'Land of Flat Stones'.
2. Which explorer kinapped two of the Iroquois Chief Donnacona's sons and took them back to France?

Answer: Cartier

Cartier took Donnacona's two sons Dom Agaya and Taignoagny back to France, taught them French so that they could act as interpreters on later voyages and then brought them back to their village on his next expedition. He later took Chief Donnacona back to France with him where the chief died.
3. Which explorer is known as the 'Father of New France'?

Answer: Champlain

Champlain received this title because he was the first one able to establish and maintain a permanent French colony on mainland North America.

The most widely accepted however, is that while guiding Cartier down the St. Lawrence river, Donnacona's two sons used the word 'Kanata', meaning 'Our Village'.
