Answer: The Little Corporal

The nickname was given to Napoleon as he enjoyed good camaraderie with his troops, and was able to lead them to victory. He also sighted some guns at the battle, which was usually done by an artillery corporal.

Answer: Austria and Piedmont

Napoleon was able to use the poor communication between the two armies to isolate first the Piedmontese, under Colli, defeat them, and then attack the Austrians.

The Piedmontese were unwilling allies of the Austrians and quick to leave the campaign when they suffered defeats. After the defeat at Mondovi, an armistice was signed at Mondovi, leading to the peace treaty signed at Paris, in which they ceded Nice and Savoy to France

The Austrians left a rearguard, which defended the bridge, allowing the main army to escape, but Napoleon was able to use propaganda to full effect, and he also developed a good relationship with his army.

Wurmser led an army to Italy after Napoleon had gained his victory at Lodi. Kellermann was sent to reinforce Napoleon.

Napoleon had been besieging Mantua since June 4th 1796, and was forced to abandon the siege on July 31st 1796, but was able to resume the siege on August 24th 1796.

Wurmser was defeated days after Quasdanovich's defeat at Lonato. Wurmser lost around twice as many men as Napoleon, but Napoleon was not able to execute his plan properly, allowing the majority of the Austrian army to escape.

The force was 28,000 men strong, with over half dying. The casualties were mainly from disease, and the defeat of Provera's army which was attempting to break the siege, was the last straw for Wurmser.
