The IJN Hosho served as a base for scout and observer planes. The IJN Junyo was part of the Aleutians Diversion Attack under Vice Admiral Kondo, and the Zuiho was part of Admiral Yamamaoto's main body. Chiyoda was not an aircraft carrier at the time of the battle. (It was later converted).

2. The Captain of the IJN Soryu was last seen performing what action?

Answer: Singing "Kimigayo"

Captain Yanagimoto was witnessed singing the Japanese National Anthem by a sailor sent to rescue him, but the latter was immediately ordered off the ship when he stepped into the bridge.

3. While the Aleutian Islands Diversion was a success, which of the following key pieces of intelligence was recovered by the Americans?

Answer: A intact mitsubishi "zero" fighter plane

The Japanese pilot had tried to land but the flat piece of ground he chose to land on turned out to be the exact opposite. He broke his neck on impact, but his plane was found intact.

The Battle of El Alamein begun shortly after the events at Midway. The Hundred Regiments Offensive took place before the United States' entry into the war; it was fought between the Chinese Communist "eight route" army and the Japanese. As suggested by the name, the Chinese had a force consisting of around 100 regiments.

While most Japanese forces were ordered to retreat, a number of submarines stayed in position and bombarded the island for some time in preparation for a eventually cancelled Japanese counterattack. One of them, the I-168, was able to come across the Yorktown.

While Yamaguchi was the highest ranking officer aboard the Hiryu, Kaku was the ship's actual captain. He was the only one that stayed with Yamaguchi aboard the Hiryu. Interesting enough, the officers listed as the other two answers died within hours of Kaku and Yamaguchi.(They were the captains of the Kaga and Soryu).
