Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Our first game uses rubber bands and plastic walls for its pieces. Can you name this game which was published in 1983?

Answer: Crossbows and Catapults

The object of this game is to build plastic brick walls to fortify your fort. Two players take alternate turns shooting at the walls with plastic discs using an elastic enabled crossbow or by using an elastic loaded catapult to lob discs with. The game is imaginative in the sense that the two players can determine the scenario to play and also the conditions that must be met in order to win.

Henri Sala designed this game.
2. Here's a game where each player will have a card with the identity of someone famous attached to their forehead with a rubber band. Everyone can see each identity except for their own. Do you remember the name of the game?

Answer: Amnesia

This hilarious game was designed by Keith Meyers and was published in 1990. It's a game for two to six players and takes approximately thirty minutes to play. It's a great party game and has alternate names of Befuddles and also Incognito. After some clues are given, the players have to figure out which character is held on to their own forehead.

There is a 'Memory Bell' that can be rung if a player needs more clues.
3. Cannon Ball is a game in which bridges are held together with rubber bands. Which type of game is this?

Answer: War Game

Cannon Ball was first published in 1968. There are two players in this twenty minute war game. This is a classic game including sixty-four three dimensional toy soldiers who represent the blue and the grey Civil War Troops. The game has bridges that are tapped by a player if troops are on the bridge. If the elastic band snaps it means the bridge has exploded.
4. Which co-operative children's game requires four people to hold strings attached to an elastic band while they build something we might consider medieval?

Answer: Castle Knights

Christian Tiggemann designed this game for two to four players. The game was published in 2007. The best way to play is with four players aged five and up. The players are all knights who are working together. They have to build three new towers for the castle before King Duncan gets back to the castle. Building the towers involves wooden balls, satin cord and a type of rubber band.

The rubber band is used to move blocks and build with. It is also used to add wooden figures to the top of each tower. Drawing cards determines which towers you must build and if you get the tower built before the timer runs out you keep the card. King Duncan moves a space closer to the castle if you fail to get the tower built in time. If you manage to collect three cards before the King makes it to the castle you will win the game.
5. Parker Brothers put out a game in 1931 called "Crow Hunt". How many points are needed to win this game?

Answer: Twenty-Five

In this game a repeating rifle loaded with six elastic bands is used to shoot at crows which are on a slide at the rear of a target. The crows appear one at a time and when you hit one the next one appears. Each crow you hit is worth one point with the final bird being a duck named Elmer. The duck is worth five points. A total of twenty-five points is needed to win this game.
6. Which popular arcade character was also featured on a board game using an elastic/rubber band?

Answer: Donkey Kong

The Donkey Kong board game was published in 1982. This twenty minute game is for two to four players aged seven and up. The game is based on the video game of the same name and the players have to save the girl while they avoid falling barrels. The game includes four stand-up Mario pieces and four fireballs.

There are twelve plastic barrels and a large Donkey Kong. Forty-eight action cards are included along with a red die and a white die. The large Donkey Kong has a rubber band on the back of his left arm so when you push his arm down the rubber band snaps and releases a barrel.

The arm springs back up into position to be reloaded with a barrel.
7. Which 1965 game shoots a fisherman piece off from a plastic dock?

Answer: Fish Bait

Marvin Glass designed this game which takes about fifteen minutes to play. Published in 1965 this is a children's game which is quite similar mechanics to the design of the more familiar Mouse Trap Game. The pieces are added one at a time when the playing piece (the fisherman) lands on a white square. If he lands on a square marked Fish Bait he is removed and placed on a plastic dock. From the dock a rubber band is hooked around the fisherman's legs. If a player lands on the Catch Fish square, the poor little fisherman is sent hurdling form the dock.
8. Do you remember the glow-in-the-dark Green Ghost game? What purpose did elastic bands have in this game?

Answer: Cut up to look like snakes

This 1965 game was revived and released again in 1997. The game is classified as a children's game and a horror game. It has been suggested that if you play under the glow of a black light the pieces and the playing board will glow better. The three dimensional game uses dice and a board that is up on stilts because there are holes for game pieces to fall through. If a player's piece falls through a hole the player can open one of three pits so as to get a small green ghost.

The pits are each filled with different things that are supposed to scare the player such as rubber bands that are cut up to resemble snakes. One pit has bat's feathers and another has bones.
9. In the Mouse Trap game which part of the contraption uses a rubber band?

Answer: Stop sign

Mouse Trap was designed by Gordon A. Barlow, Marvin Glass, Harvey "Hank" Kramer and Burt Meyer. It was first released in 1963. In this game a mouse trap is gradually set up while up to four mice (playing pieces) try their best to get through the trap to get to the cheese. Collecting cheese cards is part of the game as well. Once the trap is fully built players can try to capture each other's mouse in the trap.

The crank is turned and the trap is activated. The last mouse standing wins the game. The crank turns a gear which pushes a lever with a stop sign on it.

This lever is elastic-loaded and hits the boot, the boot hits a bucket and a marble goes down stairs into a chute and so on until the cage trap eventually comes free and falls trapping a mouse.
10. Operation is a fun game requiring dexterity for all ages. In which part of the game does an elastic band play a significant part?

Answer: Ankle Bone Connected to the Knee Bone

This popular game was first released in 1965 and is played by two to four people. Plenty of dexterity is required in this battery operated game. If a player touches any metal sides of the board when removing/repairing body parts, the board will buzz and the patient's red nose will light up.

In the part of the game referred to as The Ankle Bone Connected to the Knee Bone, the player must stretch a rubber band between two pegs where the left ankle and knee are. The successful removal of the body parts earns the players cash so that the one with the most cash at the end of the game wins.

The parts of the body include Adam's Apple, Butterflies in the Stomach, Spare Ribs, Funny Bone, Bread Basket and much more.
