Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following does NOT come with the game?

Answer: Ten-sided die

Pay Day was originally released in 1975, but was re-released (as Payday) in 1994 with a revised set of rules. It comes with the PAYDAY game board, PAYDAY money, 48 Mail cards, 24 Deal! cards, six tokens, one die, and a loan record pad.
2. What company released the game?

Answer: Parker Brothers

Pay Day was invented by Paul J. Gruen, one of the era's top board game designers. It was his most successful game, outselling Monopoly in its first production year. Personally, I prefer it to Monopoly because it's both interesting and much quicker!
3. What is one of the first things you should do before starting the game?

Answer: Decide how many "months" you'll play.

The VERY FIRST thing you should do in Payday is decide how long you're going to play! A "month" is the equivalent to a trip around the board. The board is set up like a calendar and each of the calendar days are a playing space. The recommended game size is three to six "months".
4. What do you need to do with the Deal! and Mail cards?

Answer: Shuffle, separate, and put in two different stacks where each player can reach them.

The Deal! and Mail cards always need to be separated and shuffled in their separate piles. Deal! cards have great deals to help generate profit and earn more money, but when you get a Mail card, your money usually goes to somebody else!
5. What type of event is there every month?

Answer: Yard Sale

At the beginning of each month, you put a new Deal! card on the "Yard Sale" space. When you land on this space, you roll the die and whatever number is on the die is multiplied by a hundred. That is the amount of money you pay for the deal card. Why is that a great deal? Well, when you're only paying six hundred dollars max for a Deal! card that would ordinarily cost eleven thousand, you won't be complaining!
6. Who of the following does NOT play?

Answer: Everybody plays.

The Banker and the Loan Record Keeper both play, but the "Boss" doesn't exist. The Banker is responsible for all the money that goes in and out of the bank, and the Loan Record Keeper keeps track of the Loan Record Pad and all of the loan transactions.
7. How should loans be paid back (according to the official Payday rules)?

Answer: In increments of $1,000.

You may take out a loan at any time during the game. It is documented by the Loan Record Keeper on the Loan Record Pad. They MUST (according to the rules) be paid in increments of $1,000. There is an interest rate of 10% of your outstanding loan balance every time you land on the "Pay Day" space at the end of the month.
8. Which of the following is a real Mail card?

Answer: Monster Charge

The Mail cards consist of 'Pay a Neighbor', 'Mad Money', 'Charity', and 'Monster Charge'. Inheritance is only in The Game of Life!
9. What does the 'Charity' card do?

Answer: You have to give money to charity.

When you get this card, it's always a bummer. What's the fun in having to give money to an organization you know doesn't exist?! The only plus is that the money goes to the 'Jackpot', meaning if you hit the 'Jackpot', you might get your money back!
10. Finally, who wins?

Answer: The person with the most net worth when all players have finished.

When all players have completed the number of months you decided on at the beginning of the game, each player adds up their cash total. Now subtract the amount of any outstanding loans, bills, etc. The amount you have left is your net worth. The player with the highest net worth wins!
