Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Hungry? Why wait? How about having this milk chocolate candy bar packed with peanuts and caramel nougat? I'm sure it will satisfy your hunger. When I'm out golfing, I usually have one after the front 9 and it gives me the energy I need to finish the 18."

Answer: Snickers

The top selling candy bar in the U.S. for many years was introduced into the market in 1930. It was named "Snickers" bar after the Mars' family favorite horse.
2. "These little candies melt in your mouth and not in your hand. They are little round chocolate pieces covered with a candy coating. They come with or without peanuts. You can use them in baking such things as cookies and they even have their own "Blizzard" at Dairy Queen."

Answer: M & M's

Every cloud has a silver lining. The legend that tells us how M & M candy were born is proof of that. The story goes like this: On a trip to Spain, Forrest Mars Sr. ran into some soldiers (Spanish Civil war time) who were eating pellets of chocolate. The pellets were encased in a hard, sugary coat to prevent it from melting.

This idea inspired him, so he went back to his kitchen and whipped up the recipe for M & M's Plain Chocolate Candies.
3. "Here are some yellow candies that you can give to your friends and tell them they are sweet but actually they are very sour. After they make your face pucker up for a few seconds, you finally hit the sweet center. Don't be afraid to bring a glass of water with you when you try these!"

Answer: Lemonheads

These candies are the most successful of their time. Lemonheads were developed in 1962 using the same method as Red Hots, the object was to create a sour candy equal to the popular Red Hots. The Ferrara Pan Company currently produces approximately 500 million Lemonheads a year.
4. "Isn't life juicy? Try one of these fruit chews for a taste explosion! They come in many flavors with packs of California and Tropical Fruit along with the originals. So why not try one and get ready to ride a wave of flavor?"

Answer: Starburst

Brits were the first to try this tasty treat. STARBURST Fruit Chews were first introduced in Mars, Ltd. of Slough, England, a Mars affiliated company, in 1960. The product didn't hit the U.S. market until 1976. The original blend of orange, lemon, lime and strawberry flavors was introduced then.
5. "I saw you over there in the corner and you look worried about kissing that significant other in your life. Let me take a guess, bad breath maybe? You could try a gum that has a strong cinnamon flavor and gives you long-lasting fresh breath. You might even get a chance to kiss a little longer!"

Answer: Big Red

Getting ready to hit the town? Party, have some serious fun? Remember to bring with you a pack of Big Red. On the market since 1975, it didn't get the update to its "hot, bold" cinnamon taste until 2001. The new bolder taste gives you longer lasting fresh breath, more than ever before.
6. "This Nestle's candy bar is milk chocolate filled with a crispy sugar candy with a peanut buttery taste. Hey, if it's good enough for Bart Simpson then it's good enough for you. After one bite you'll be telling everyone they better not lay a finger on it."

Answer: Butterfinger

Contrary to popular belief that the name "Butterfinger" comes from a popular phrase used by sportscasters in the 1920's to describe athletes who would drop the ball, rumor has it that the name actually comes from Junior Curtis's habit of poking his "finger" in the family "butter". "Butterfinger" was the Curtiss Candy Company's baby.
7. "This bite size candy has a candy shell and fruit flavored chewy center. Come and taste the rainbow!"

Answer: Skittles

Answer: Bazooka Joe

If you can tell me you never ran to the store to buy this now famous gum, for its great taste sure, but more for the cool comics that come with it, you're lying! Bazooka Bubble gum was introduced in 1953 and was named after the funny named musical instrument that entertainer Bob Burns had fashioned from two gas pipes and a funnel in the 1930s.
9. "This candy is fun to eat from the noises it makes and taste great as well. It also has an urban legend to go with them. Come try some and see if it comes true!"

Answer: Pop Rocks

They weren't introduced to the public until 1975. We have chemistry to thank for the fun this candy provides. Small amounts of carbonation are released causing that mild exploding sensation and sizzling noise.

Coming in all sorts of flavors, from peppermint, to Butter Rum to its original fruity five flavor, this candy is definitely the one thing you and even your grandmother can have in common. Answer: Lifesavers

Probably the first candy you ever loved. Lifesaver candy is America's favorite hard roll candy, and has been since their creation in 1912. Clarence Crane, a Cleveland chocolate maker came up with the idea, he wanted a sweet product that wouldn't melt in the summer heat.

The first flavor was peppermint. Lifesavers come in all sorts of flavors these days, each roll containing 14 candies. What's your favorite flavor?
