Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Here's the first show. What show is the line "I'll put a pebble in my shoe and watch me walk" from?

Answer: Godspell

This was my first show at a professional theater. Therefore, it means so much to me and it's a great show too. This line is from the song "By My Side." In the middle of the song, Judas narrates how he betrays Jesus.
2. "If you've got doubts then boy you're not alone. Just means you're ready to fight." What show is this lyric from?

Answer: Footloose

This is from the song "Mama Says" which Williard sings. This is the funniest part of the whole show in my opinion. I absolutely love this show which is a good thing because we did it for six weeks.
3. In what show do they ask the question, "Who became so famous with a reputation so great?"

Answer: Lil' Abner

Although not a great show, my company had so much fun doing it because you don't have to be too serious. In this song, "Jubilation T. Cornpone" sung by Marryin' Sam, the town pays homage to their hero. Strangely enough, it is his statue that ends up saving the town in the end.
4. In what show can you find the lyric, "Have you no consideration for a woman's feelings?"

Answer: Fiddler on the Roof

From "The Dream" when Fruma Sara is yelling at Tevye. This is a pretty good show but not one of my favorites.
5. This pretty lullaby lyric, "May God's heaven be your blanket as you softly sleep," is from what show?

Answer: Titanic

We had to cut a lot from this show when we did it, mainly because we only had a cast of 28. For anyone who knows "Titanic," this is a hard show to do with only 28 people. This is from a beautiful song sung by Barrett called "The Proposal." I cried every time Barrett sang the reprise of this song while the ship is sinking.
6. "For you see love is one thing I do well." What show is this lyric from?

Answer: The Scarlet Pimpernel

This is my third favorite show of all time and our production was amazing. We got rave reviews. This is from the opening song "Storybook" that Marguerite sings. One funny thing was that our Marguerite could not speak French. She could never say Chauvelin the correct way.
7. In which show can you find the lyric, "I said I'm evil, so don't you mess around with me," sung by a sexy lady?

Answer: Smokey Joe's Cafe

From the song "Trouble" and sung by whoever performs the Delee and Brenda tracks. This is a good show with great music, but I don't like shows without plots so it got boring after the first few performances.
8. Where can you find this lyric? "She proved that everything she had was absolutely real."

Answer: Oklahoma

From "Kansas City" sung by Will. I'm not a huge fan of Rodgers and Hammerstein, but I do like "Oklahoma."
9. In what comedic show will you find the lyric, "I'm running through the field with the neighbor kids and I hear mama calling me to go."

Answer: Nunsense

From the song "Lilacs Bring Back Memories." This part is sung by Sister Mary Amnesia. We actually did "Nunsense...A-Men!" which is the exact same show but with all men. Since it's the same lyrics, I didn't want to be confusing. If you have never seen a "Nunsense" show, you're definitely missing something. They are so funny.
10. "Now the only thing that gives me hope is my love of a certain dope." What show is this line from?"

Answer: The Rocky Horror Show

This was the first show I performed in at this theater. I was just an usherette, but it was so much fun because there are no rules. Although smelling like wet rice for three weeks afterwards wasn't fun. This is from the song "Rose Tint My World" during the Floor Show. This part is sung by Columbia.
11. In what musical will you find the line, "Why do you think I should help you? Would you help me?"

Answer: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

From one of my top 10 favorite shows. I've done this show for 7 weeks now and I still love it. This is from the song "Grovel, Grovel." Joseph, as Pharoah's advisor, is yelling at his brothers, but they don't know it's him yet.
12. The line, "It wasn't paradise but it was home," is from what musical?

Answer: A Chorus Line

Another great show. This song, "At the Ballet," is one of my favorites. It's a beautiful ballad sung by Sheila, Bebe, and Maggie. All three remember how they could escape their troubled pasts by going to the ballet. Unfortunately, none of these three make the final cut.
13. "It would really be a sin not to have you in my arms." What musical is this lyric from?"

Answer: 42nd Street

This is a classic musical with lots of tap dancing. From the song "Young and Healthy," a duet between Peggy and Billy.
14. "You'll only see her where they're playing that music." What show will you find this lyric in?

Answer: Victor/Victoria

From the song "Le Jazz Hot." This is Victoria's first performance as Victor but this line is sung by one of the male performers. This show, which stared Julie Andrews on Broadway, is pretty good. I think the comedy of the character Norma really saves the show. Our Norma was great.
15. In what musical can you find the lyric, "Not only did we pay attention, we paid through the nose?"

Answer: Annie

It's hard trying to keep track of lots of little girls and a dog, but "Annie" is a very popular show and therefore, a good seller. This is from the song "Hooverville," a funny song by the poor people living in a Hooverville under the 59th Street Bridge.
16. "I've been very hopeful so far. Now for the first time I think we're going wrong." You can find this line in a pretty ballad sung in what show?

Answer: Jesus Christ Superstar

From the very beautiful song "Could We Start Again, Please?" This is sung to Jesus by Mary Magdelene and Peter after he has been captured.
17. You can find the lyric, "Little girl do you know who I mean? Pretty soon she'll be seventeen," in what fun show?

Answer: Grease

"Grease" is not a favorite of those who work in musical theater but it's a huge crowd favorite. This is from the song "Rock n' Roll Party Queen" sung by Roger and Doody. My best friend played Doody and he was so good.
18. In which of these dark shows will you find the lyric, "Watching your eyes as they invade my soul. Forbidden pleasures I'm afraid to make mine?"

Answer: Jekyll & Hyde

This line is from my favorite song from the show, "Dangerous Game," sung by Hyde and Lucy. This is one of my top 10 favorite shows. We had a great cast when we did this and our Jekyll/Hyde was amazing.
19. "Let my fingers but see thou art warm and alive and no phantom to fade in the air." What show is this lyric from?

Answer: Man of La Mancha

From the song "Dulcinea," sung by Don Quixote to Aldonza when he first meets her. He thinks she is a virtuous lady named Dulcinea, but she is really just a kitchen maid.
20. In what Sondheim musical will you find the line, "I'm calm. I'm calm. I haven't a qualm. I'm utterly under control?"

Answer: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum

I love Sondheim's music and this is a very funny musical. This is sung by Hysterium in the song "I'm Calm." Hysterium was played by a good friend of mine and he stole the show.
21. "Just recite an occasional sonnet and your lap will have honey upon it." This line is in a very funny song from which show?

Answer: Kiss Me, Kate

From a funny, funny song called "Brush Up Your Shakespeare," which the two gangsters sing when they accidentally end up on stage. We had the same amazingly talented actor do Fred/Petruchio in this show who did Jekyll/Hyde and Don Quixote/Cervantes. The funny thing was that in all these roles he played two people.
22. "And the voice said Daddy there's a million pigeons waiting to be hooked on new religions," is a lyric that can be found in what musical?

Answer: Sweet Charity

This is a really fun show with great Bob Fosse choreography. This is from the song "Rhythm of Life" sung by Big Daddy.
23. What show is the following lyric from? "Exercise your wildest whims tonight. We are out with Diamond Jim's tonight."

Answer: Hello, Dolly

This song, "Elegance," opens Act II. It is sung by Cornelius, Irene Malloy, Barnaby, and Minnie Fay as the two couples head to the restaurant. Cornelius and Barnaby are trying to show the girls how to "act elegant", but the girls don't know they are really just poor clerks. This is a great show because all the four couples who are supposed to, end up together.
24. You will find the line, "You gotta know just what to say and how to say it. You gotta know what game to play and how to play it," in what musical?

Answer: Damn Yankees

This is another show I really like. Lola tells Applegate that she can get any man in "A Little Brains, A Little Talent." I ran the sound board for this show and the actor who played Joe Hardy would always look at me when he sang "Near to You." It was our joke.
25. "I'm home about eight, just me and my radio." And finally, what musical is this line from?

Answer: Ain't Misbehavin'

And we end with a show that wasn't really one of my favorites. Once again, I'm not a big fan of shows without a plot. This is from the title song "Ain't Misbehavin'".
