Answer: Mjollnir

Made by the dwarfs Brokk and Eitri, Mjollnir glowed red-hot at one end and could only be held by an iron gauntlet.
2. What was the name of the monster slain by Beowulf?

Answer: Grendel

A man-eater, Grendel was impervious to weapons, so Beowulf tore the monster's arm off in a fierce struggle causing him to bleed to death. Later in the epic poem, Beowulf also killed Grendel's mother and an unnamed dragon.
3. What is the name for the group of maidens that rode over the battlefields and chose which of the slain warriors would enter Valhalla?

Answer: Valkyries

The Valkyries were the handmaidens of Odin. They wore armour and carried spears whilst riding their horses across the fields of battle to choose Odin's heroes and carry them to Valhalla.

Answer: Ymir

Odin's grandsons killed Ymir and threw his body back into Ginnungagap where his flesh became the earth; his bones mountains; his teeth rocks and boulders, and his blood rivers and seas.

Valhalla was immense, having more than 500 huge doors, each of which could accommodate 800 men marching side-by-side, making it easy for the warriors to pour forth at the first sign of Ragnarok.
8. What was the name of the god of fire and mischief who grew so evil that the gods imprisoned him in a cave until the end of the world?

Answer: Loki

Sometimes called Lopt, Loki emerged from his prison at Ragnarok to lead the evil army against the gods.
9. Sleipnir, Odin's horse, had how many legs?

Answer: 8

Sleipnir could travel over sea and through the sky and was the horse that Odin would ride into battle at Ragnarok.
10. Ragnarok, the final battle between the gods and the frost giants, was fought on which plain?

Answer: Vigrid

After a severe winter that lasted three years the final battle was fought. Odin was powerless to prevent the devastation. His only consolation being in the knowledge that a new world would rise out of the destruction.
