1. What is Sam Gamgee's real name?

Answer: Samwise

There are few characters more loyal, loving and trustworthy than Sam Gamgee. He was Frodo Baggins's gardener and servant, before becoming his closest friend. His name is a translation of the Hobbit-name "Banazir", meaning 'half-wise' or 'simple'.
2. What did Bilbo call Aragorn?

Answer: Dunadan

Aragorn was called by all these names, but Bilbo used to call him Dunadan, (or "the Dunadan") which was Sindarin for 'Man of the West'. The plural form was "Dunedain" which referred to the Rangers as a group.
3. What did the elves call Gandalf?

Answer: Mithrandir

Mithrandir meant 'Grey Wanderer'. He was known as Tharkun by the Dwarves, and Olorin was the name of his youth 'in the West that is forgotten.'
4. What was the real name of the Sword-that-was-Broken before it was reforged?

Answer: Narsil

The name Narsil means "Red and White Flame" in the Quenyan language. The sword belonged to Elendil, and was broken as Elendil fell in battle with Sauron. His son, Isildur then used its shards to cut the One Ring from Sauron's hand. The shards were kept, and were eventually reforged and renamed Anduril. Glamdring was Gandalf's sword, and of course Sting belonged to Frodo, after it was given to him by Bilbo.
5. Who was known by the elves as Curunir?

Answer: Saruman the White

It meant 'Man of Skill.'
6. What was the other name for Rivendell, mentioned in Boromir's dream?

Answer: Imladris

It means 'deep cloven valley' in Sindarin.

Meaning 'Elf-Stone', in honour of the elven-stone given to him by Arwen Undomiel.
