"Peril at End House" with Poirot Quiz

Poirot and Hastings are on holiday. A chance meeting with a young woman - Nick Buckley - who has three narrow escapes from death in as many days alerts Poirot. Especially since someone has tried to shoot Nick while she is talking with them. Nick lives at End House, near the hotel. Captain Michael Seton has been reported missing.

Poirot and Hastings visit Nick at End House. Nick tells them about her narrow escapes from death. The bullet that shot at Nick came from a Mauser pistol. There was a Mauser pistol at End House but it is missing,

Maggie is Nick's cousin. Nick also has another cousin, Charles Vyse, the lawyer. Poirot fears for Nick's safety. Although Nick finds Maggie boring, she agrees to invite her to stay, from Yorkshire. Nick made a will, about six months before, when she had an operation for appendicitis. Nick's best friend is Freddie Rice.

Mr and Mrs Croft are Australians. They live at the lodge of End House. Mrs Croft is an invalid; she injured her back in the train accident. Poirot and Hastings have a look around End House while it is empty.

Nick hosts a dinner party, and to watch fireworks later. Poirot and Hastings attend; they meet Maggie Buckley. Nick says she knew Captain Seton. While everyone is watching the fireworks, Nick and Maggie go back to the house. Maggie is found shot, wearing Nick's shawl. Is it mistaken identity?

Nick is sent to a nursing home. None of her friends are allowed to visit her, except Poirot and Hastings. Poirot makes a list of people who might have wanted Nick dead. There are nine names and an extra one - someone unknown.

Michael Seton's death is confirmed in the newspapers. Poirot and Hastings go to see Nick at the nursing home.

Before Nick had her appendix operation she made her will. It was witnessed by her housekeeper, Ellen, and Ellen's husband. Mr Croft advised her to do so. Nick was sending it to Charles Vyse. Poirot warns Nick not to eat anything sent to her from the outside.

Nick told Commander Challenger that she was engaged to someone, two days ago. Freddie Rice seems on edge when she visits Poirot.

Nick has had another narrow escape, when sent a box of poisoned chocolates, supposed to be from Poirot. Nick also rang Freddie Rice to send her a box of chocolates. Poirot says he is going to spread the rumour that Nick is dead. It will be interesting to see what happens next.

All Nick's friends are convinced Nick is dead. Poirot goes through his list of suspects, with questions concerning each person. Charles Vyse has received Nick's will through the post, dated the previous February. Poirot says he is going to stage a play at End House. Even Nick will have her role to play.

Poirot assembles all the suspects - except for the unknown "J" - at End House. Even Mrs Croft is there. Charles Vyse reads out Nick's will. Apparently, Nick left everything to Mrs Croft, who knew her father well. Poirot suggests they all have a séance. Nick suddenly enters the room. The will is a forgery. She left everything to Freddie Rice. Milly Croft is better known as Milly Merton.

Magdala is a traditional Buckley name. Maggie's name was Magdala too. It was Maggie who was engaged to Captain Michael Seton, not Nick. Nick shot Maggie, so she could inherit Michael's money. Freddie is a recovering drug addict; so is Nick. Nick takes Freddie's watch - which is full of cocaine - before she is taken away by the police.
