Yukihira Soma was born to Yukihira Joichiro (previously known as Saiba Joichiro), and acquired a love of cooking and a fiercely competitive spirit from the age of 5. Joichiro is an extremely talented chef who previously occupied the Second Seat in the Totsuki Elite Ten.

Answer: Nakiri Erina

Nakiri Erina is also known as the God Tongue, and can identify every single flavor in a dish. This, coupled with her coldness, makes her a truly terrifying examiner. She acquires a dislike of Soma after seeing his laid back personality and failure to be impressed by her credentials, and calls his food disgusting even though she enjoyed the dish. Soma is ultimately allowed to transfer by the headmaster, Nakiri Senzaemon, who is also Erina's grandfather.

Answer: Tadokoro Megumi

Megumi is constantly on edge, repeatedly writing the "person" character on her hand to get rid of her nervousness. She almost faints when she finds out that her teacher is Chapelle-sensei, who is notorious for not giving out As.

In their first partnership, a rival team oversalts Megumi and Soma's Beef Bourgineon Stew in order to fail Soma, 'the obnoxious new transfer student'. Soma comes up with a way to tenderize the beef in the remaining 30 minutes, marinating it in honey before stewing it. The resulting flavor impresses Chapelle-sensei, who gives them both an 'A' grade.

Answer: Daimido Fumio

Fumio-san is a strict but loving matron who cares tremendously about the dormitory and its residents. She has been in charge of the dorm since Joichiro's time, and requires that new applicants cook her a dish to gain admission to the dorm. Soma passed the test on his first try, but it took Megumi three months to gain admission.

Answer: Mito Ikumi

Soma challenged Ikumi to save the Donburi Research Society. If he lost, he had to leave Totsuki forever, but if he won, Ikumi would have to join the Don RS.

Ikumi was called the Meat Master because of her sensitivity to temperature and her family being the largest meat distributor in Japan. She cooked an A5 grade Wagyu Steak with garlic rice, whereas Soma cooked a Chaliapin Steak with umeboshi rice. Soma beat her handily, as his dish showcased the essence of a Donburi better than hers.

Answer: Takumi Aldini

Takumi and his brother Isami come from a diner in Italy. Takumi is one of the best chefs in High School Year 1. They challenge Soma to a friendly food war during the Training Camp, and tie with him after the judge cannot make up her mind. The Aldini brothers prepare an Italian-Japanese fusion duck dish, whereas Soma deep-fries a fish with Kaki-no-tane as breading.

Answer: Nakiri Alice

Alice is the granddaughter of Nakiri Senzaemon, the dean of Totsuki, and Erina's cousin. She's extremely bossy and condescending at first, but warms up to Soma after being defeated by him at the Autumn Elections.

She sells 380 servings of her breakfast dish at the Training Camp, second only to Erina's 429, and might have beaten her if she hadn't run out of ingredients.

Answer: Kurokiba Ryo

Ryo's dish was the first to be given a score other than zero by Natsume Sendawara, and absolutely blew the other judges and Erina away. He ended up tying Soma with 93 points in the prelims, and went on to tie with Soma as the runner up of the finals.

Answer: Akira Hayama

Hayama is famed for his ability to smell out every spice used in a dish, making him one of the best curry chefs in the year. He beats everyone in Block A of the preliminaries, and beats Hisako, Ryo and Soma on his way to win the Autumn Election finals.

Answer: Isshiki Satoshi

Isshiki is a second year and heir to the famous Isshiki clan. He is also the Seventh Seat of the Totsuki Elite Ten, and is notorious for not trying his hardest. The third years all know that if Isshiki tried his best, he could defeat anyone except the First Seat.
