Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the name that Feanor's mother gave him?

Answer: Fëanáro

He rarely is called this, only by Miriel and a few others. It basically means the same as Feanor- "Spirit of Fire".
2. What does 'Curu' mean in Elvish?

Answer: Skill

He made the Silmarils after all... He passed the name Curu down to his fifth son and he was named... CURUFIN, which means "Skill Hair".
3. Feanor translates into what?

Answer: Spirit of Fire

Kinda odd that he turned to ash when he died... He was called this rather often; it is also the meaning of Feanaro.
4. Feanor's father was _____

Answer: Finwe

Feanor was the first son of Finwë. He was the only son of Finwë and Miriel, who died soon after Feanor's birth; it was said that he was so strong that he took all of the life force from her body. Finwë was the leader of the Noldor from Cuivienen, and was one of the first that were awoken.

He is considered to be one of the most important figures in early Elvendom, along with Ingwë, Olwë, and Elwë (Thingol).
5. Who was Feanor's mother?

Answer: Míriel Serindë

He was the only offspring of Miriel. She died soon after his birth, for it is said that Feanor was so strong, that she used all of her life force in his birth. Miriel was the best of all of the Children of Eru at sewing and knitting.
6. True or False: Finarfin and Fingolfin had a different mother than Feanor.

Answer: True

They were his HALF brothers. Feanor was born to Miriel and Finwe, but Fingolfin and Finarfin were the sons of Finwe and Indis.
7. True or False: Feanor was slain in the Nirnaeth Arnoediad.

Answer: False

He was slain in the Dagor-nuin-Giliath, which was long before the Nirnaeth Arnoediad. He died while consumed with want for his Silmarils, and he gambled with the lives of the Noldor (and for nothing).
8. 'This is sharper than thy tongue.' Feanor said this to whom?

Answer: Fingolfin

He said this to Fingolfin before the first spill of blood on Valinor.
9. What did the Noldor do with Feanor's body after he died?

Answer: nothing

His body was consumed in flame, and turned into ashes after he was slain by Gothmog, Lord of Balrogs.
10. Feanor finally re-took the Silmarils.

Answer: False

False: His oath was never avenged. His sons attempted to fulfill the oath, but in the end the three Silmarils were spread out: one to the chasms of the fiery Earth, one was cast into the Sea, and one was upon the breast of Elwing when she turned into a white gull, later to be carried by Earendil.
