Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Although I was not born until 1975, I knew that a murderous policeman committed suicide in Castle Rock. However, before killing himself, he murdered a little girl. What was the name of the little girl?

Answer: Mary Kate Hendrasen

Frank Dodd, a psychotic policeman, was a serial killer who murdered Alma Frechette in 1970, Pauline Toothaker and Cheryl Moody in 1971, Carol Dunbarger in 1974, and Etta Ringgold and Mary Kate Hendrasen in 1975. At the time, no one knew that Dodd was a murderer. Everyone loved him and it was a shock when it was found out that he was a serial killer.

A man named John Smith was in a car accident and slipped into a coma for several years.

When Smith came out of his coma, he was able to foresee the future, and it was because of Smith that Dodd was recognized as the murderer.

On the night that Dodd was about to be arrested, he ran to his home and committed suicide with a straight razor.

Although I was not born until 1975, I knew what horrible thing happened in Castle Rock.
2. I was born in 1975, and my breeder found me a nice home with a little boy. What was the name of my breeder?

Answer: Ray Crowell

In 1975, my mother, Mrs. Beasley, gave birth to me and my brothers and sisters. My breeder, Ray Crowell, had one eye, a nasty disposition, and lived in Fryeburg, a short distance away from Castle Rock. Ray loved animals, especially dogs, especially Saint Bernards.

When I was a few weeks old, Ray went to the home of Joe Camber, an auto mechanic because he needed a new engine in his truck. Camber was willing to fix it, but Ray didn't have money, so he offered to give Camber a puppy. Camber wasn't to fond of the idea, but when Ray told him that his son, Brett, might need a friend, Camber said he would think about.

A few days later, Camber agreed to take a puppy, me! But first he made a deal with the manager of the Shop-n-Save for a discount on dog food, because he knew I would eat like there was no tomorrow.

Camber gave me to his 5 year-old son, Brett, as a birthday present, and the boy just loved me! It was Brett's job to feed me, walk me, groom me, and basically love me and take care of me. I felt so special and loved. I thought nothing would happen to take the love away that Brett and I shared. Boy, was I wrong...
3. In 1979, I turned 4 years-old. In that same year, a family moved into Dodd's house, unaware of the reputation it had for being haunted. What was the name of the family?

Answer: Trenton

Vic, Donna, and Tad Trenton moved into the old Dodd house in 1979, unaware that the house was considered haunted by the locals. Shortly after moving into the house, Vic's Jaguar needed to be fixed, so the family drove out to the Cambers for Joe to fix it.

While they were there, 3 year-old Tad stayed close to his parents, but when he saw me coming into the dooryard, he got so excited, and so did I. I saw that his mother was scared of me, and I had to do something to assure her that I was harmless. So, when Tad fell down I went over and picked him up, and showed her that I was a good dog.

Brett put Tad on my back and held him as I walked around.

It was fun to give Tad a horseback ride, and I enjoyed it. A few hours later, when Vic's car was fixed, Tad left with his parents. I was sad because I didn't think I'd ever see him again.

A year later in 1980, Tad was having some nightmares and imagining monsters in his closet.

When his closet door opened up, he thought he saw eyes; in reality it was just his teddy bear's eyes. Tad was so scared that his father made up a poem, called "The Monster Words" to help his son.

Tad thought "The Monster Words" would keep him safe, but he was wrong.
4. In 1980, I turned 5 years-old, and although I was too old to chase anything, I still did. On one fateful day, I chased a rabbit into a hole, and that is when my whole world turned upside down. On what date did I chase that rabbit?

Answer: June 16

I turned 5 years-old in 1980, and on June 16, 1980, I saw a rabbit just waiting to be chased. He didn't know I was so close to him, but when he realized how close I was he took off, with me chasing after him.

We zigzagged across the field several times, and finally he fell in a hole. Had I known how small the hole was, I wouldn't have chased him, but I can't change what I did. I ran after him and got my head stuck in the opening.

I got scared, because I was stuck, and started barking. What happened next still scares me when I think of it. I had no idea that the hole was occupied by bats, so when I started barking, I scared them and they all woke up.

They attacked me and I used the only weapon I had to fight back...my teeth. I killed a few without getting any scratches. Just as I was getting good at killing the bats, one sidelined me and bit me on the nose, which hurt and frightened me so bad that I bit it in two.

The bat tasted horrible, and I pulled out of the hole, which I should have done in the first place, and went to the pond to get rid of the bat taste in my mouth.

The hurting in my nose began to go away and I was feeling pretty good.

Little did I know that on that day my whole world was turned upside down, as I was attacked by a sick bat, and that the bat made me sick, too.
5. My family, the Cambers, lived at the end of Town Road No. 3, and Joe, the man of my family had a friend who lived nearby. I always visited this person, as he always had dog biscuits for me. What was his name?

Answer: Gary Pervier

Gary Pervier lived at the bottom of Seven Oaks Hill on Town Road No. 3, which is only a short distance away from my family, the Cambers. Gary was Joe's best friend and drinking buddy, and when the two of them got together at Gary's house they hooted and hollared.

The day I got my nose bit by that sick bat, I went to visit Gary. I just didn't feel well since the bat bit me, and when Gary went to pet me, I growled at him.

It shocked him because that was the first time he could remember me ever growling.

Gary forgave me for scaring him, and said that the heat was probably getting to me.

When he went back into the house to get more dog biscuits, I disappeared, as I was not feeling too well.

I wish I could have told Gary what happened, because maybe everything that happened could have been prevented.
6. On June 30, Brett's mother, Charity, hit the lottery for $5,000. She decided to bargain with Joe, so she and Brett could go to Connecticut. She figured if she bought Joe something that he really needed, that he would let them go. After talking with Brett, Charity went out and purchased the item that Joe wanted. What was that item?

Answer: A Jorgén chainfall

On June 30, two weeks after I was bit by the sick bat, my boy's mother, whose name is Charity, hit the lottery. She wanted to go to Connecticut to visit her sister, but in reality it was to get away from Joe, who was abusive to her.

Charity knew that Joe would never let them go, so she decided to bargain.

She asked Brett what his daddy wanted most, and at first Brett said adjustable wrenches or a new set of ball-and-sockets, but when Charity asked him what his father wanted that was expensive, Brett told her a Jorgén chainfall. Brett told her that she could get it from Mr. Belasco at Portland Machine for wholesale.

While my boy and his mother were talking, I was outside on the back porch listening. I was feeling horrible, but no one seemed to pay attention to the pain and agony I was in.
7. A few days after Charity won the lottery, I found myself all alone in the barn. Suddenly, as I was about to drift off into a fitful sleep, a loud truck came into the dooryard. The truck was so loud that it hurt my sensitive ears. I saw two men get out of the truck, but the men looked like monsters to me. What were the names of those two men?

Answer: Joe Magruder and Ronnie DuBay

A few days after winning the lottery, Charity cashed in the ticket, and went to Portland Machine. She ordered the Jorgen chainfall and had it delivered that very afternoon.

I found myself all alone in the barn. I liked the barn because it was cool and dark inside, where the outside was too bright for my sensitive eyes. I never recalled it being too bright before, but for some reason it was this day.

I was just about to fall into a fitful sleep, when I heard this really loud noise. It was a truck, and it was so loud that my ears hurt.

When I saw the two men, Joe Magruder and Ronnie DuBay, get out of the truck with something, I thought I was seeing two monsters, and I decided to go after them.

They had just stepped into the barn when I started to growl.

They dropped the chainfall and backed out of the barn to the truck, with me growling the entire time. After Joe and Ronnie left, Ronnie wanted to call Joe to let them know that something was wrong with me, but his friend talked him out of it. Oh, how I wish Ronnie did make that call!

Looking back on that time, I think I still had some 'good dog' left in me. I wish I knew why I had this urge to bite and maim, when I never wanted to do that before.
8. Ever since the bat bit me, I was so thirsty all of the time, and when I went to get some water I backed away. On the few occasions that I did drink, the water hurt me so bad. It made my mouth and teeth hurt, and sent a searing pain through my eyes. But the taste of the water was worse. What did the water taste like to me?

Answer: Steel shavings

Ever since the bat bit me, I had been so thirsty that when I did approach my water dish or the pond, I backed away. The few times that my thirst was so bad that I drank the water, it made my mouth and teeth ache and sent pain a searing through my eyes. I felt like I was drinking steel shavings that pierced my eyes and clanked on my teeth.

I was feeling so horrible, but no one ever noticed.

Whenever I fell asleep, I had these really bad dreams that I killed my boy! I don't know why I would dream of that.
9. On the morning that Brett and Charity were to go to Connecticut, Brett got up early because he was excited. Brett poured himself a bowl of cereal and walked outside into the morning fog. The fog was so thick that, at first, he didn't see me. When I started to growl, Brett froze with his bowl of cereal in his hands. What kind of cereal did he have that morning?

Answer: Cocoa Bears

On the morning that Brett and his mother were to go to Connecticut, Brett got up early because he was excited about the trip. He had his first bowl of Cocoa Bears in the kitchen, but he thought that his parents could hear him chewing. So, when he poured himself another bowl of Cocoa Bears, he took it outside in the morning fog.

The fog was so thick that, at first, Brett didn't see me.

When he heard me growling, Brett froze with his cereal in his hands, and just stood there staring at me.

To me, my boy looked like a beast, a beast that wanted to hurt me. I stood there, teeth bared, foaming at the mouth, and growling at him. I wanted to leap at him and tear him to shreds.

Then, to my horror, the beast spoke, and as it spoke I recognized the sound...it was my boy! Hearing my boy speak to me, made me realize I didn't want to hurt to him. I turned and ran away.

I know I scared Brett, but I didn't mean to. I had to show him that I was really sick and that I needed help. I don't think he really knew just how sick I was, for when he told his mother about what happened and how I was as she was getting dressed for the trip, he let her talk him into thinking it was a skunk, or a rabbit, or that I attacked a moose and that I was just tired.
10. The day that Brett and Charity went to Connecticut, I went to visit Joe's friend. He used to be my friend, too, but not anymore. When Joe's friend saw me, his mind went back to a time when he saw a dog at a gas station while he was refueling his motorcycle, that dog acted just how I was acting towards him now. He remembered how the dog from twenty years ago walked into the gas station, and he remembered how the dog was killed. What was the name of the gas station that Joe's friend refueled his motorcycle at?

Answer: Amoco

The day that my boy and his mother went to Connecticut, I paid a visit to Gary. Gary walked out of his house and relieved himself in the bushes near his porch. As he was walking back to the porch, I began to growl.

When Gary heard me growling, his mind went back twenty years when he was at the Amoco station near Machias, refueling his motorcycle.

While he was at the gas station, a yellowish dog came lumbering into the station. The dog was foaming at the mouth and its eyes were going up into its head.

The dog was caked with excrement and was staggering. Gary stood there as the gas station attendant went and retrieved a rifle and shot the yellowish dog to death.

When Gary's mind came back to the present, he zeroed in on me and realized that I wasn't as far gone as that dog from long ago. Gary backed up toward the porch and began talking to me. By this time, I wasn't in the mood to hear talking, because all I could think of was the smell of fear coming from him.

I lunged for him and he screamed. I bit Gary on the shoulder and tasted his blood.

He began to hit and kick me, and then he got mad. He began cursing and screaming at me, and the smell of fear vanished from him. This confused me, and I just stood there for a couple of seconds not knowing what to do.

Then, Gary got up and shakily stumbled to the screen door, and walked in and latched the door. Gary was smart, be on this day he wasn't smart enough, for he forgot to close the big heavy wooden door. He thought he was safe as he went to get his rifle, but I was a little smarter than Gary. Did he really think that flimsy screen door would keep me out?

I smashed in the lower panel of the screen door and entered his house, and this time the smell of fear was back. I charged after Gary, and he tried his best to fend me off, but he was no match for my strength. I went for his neck and as I bit harder, Gary's fight for his life left him.

After this escapade, I was out of breath and not feeling well at all. Everything seemed too bright and unfocused, so I went down to Gary's basement where it was cool, but before I went I left a package in the kitchen. The package would tell whoever came to Gary's house who killed him.

Looking back on this, I know I was a 'bad dog,' but I didn't mean to be bad. Something was making me do things that I normally wouldn't have done.
11. After leaving Brett and Charity at the bus station, Joe went back to his house and went inside the barn. There, to his amazement, he found a package from me, and thought that I resented my boy leaving. Remembering that he and his friend were going away for a few days, Joe was in a dilemma, he didn't know who was going to feed and take care of me while he was gone. Finally, after some thought, he came up with a solution. What was it?

Answer: Fill up the old pig trough with Gaines Meal so I would have food

After leaving Brett and Charity at the bus station, Joe went back to his house and went inside the barn. There, to his amazement, he found excrement left by me inside the barn. Joe was not upset, for he felt that I was resenting Brett leaving.

After he cleaned up the package I left, Joe suddenly remembered that he and Gary were going to go away for a few days. Joe then realized that he was in a dilemma as to what to do with me.

He called and whistled for me, and lucky for him I didn't show up.

Still thinking about his dilemma, Joe thought about filling up the old pig trough with Gaines Meal, then decided against it, for he felt that I would eat one half on the first day and the other half on the second day.

Joe then walked to the house to make several calls.

The calls were to his clients to let them know that he would be gone for a few days. He then walked back to the barn to finish up his last project.
12. Donna and Tad went to the supermarket and bought groceries, and on the way back, the car started acting up. When they got home to the old Dodd house, Donna tried to call Joe Camber to see if he could fix the car, but there was no answer. Why didn't Joe answer the phone?

Answer: Because he didn't have a phone in his garage

Around noon time, Donna and Tad Trenton went to the market to buy groceries. They stopped at Mario's, a pizzeria, for lunch and then made the trip back to their house, the old Dodd house.

As they neared the house, the pinto started acting up, jerking back and forth.

The car barely made it to the house, and then stalled. Inside the house, Donna heard the phone ringing and instructed Tad to answer the phone, only to hear him talking to his father, Vic.

A few months before, Donna began having an affair with the local furniture refurbisher Steve Kemp.

When she broke off the affair, Kemp sent a nasty letter to Vic to let him know that his beloved wife was cheating on him. When confronted by Vic, Donna confessed, and the two tentatively discussed divorce; however, it was put on hold because Vic had to go out of town to help rescue his dying cereal campaign.

He was at the cereal saving meeting when Tad answered the phone after coming back from the market and Mario's.

Donna retrieved the phone from Tad and began telling Vic what happened to the car.

He suggested that she call Joe Camber to see if he could fix it. After hanging up from Vic, Donna called the Cambers but no one answered the phone.

Unfortunately, the phone kept ringing and ringing. Unbeknownst to Donna, Joe did not have a phone in the barn. Donna decided to leave Tad with the babysitter, but he blatantly refused, giving his mother every excuse in the book as to why he didn't want to stay home.

Conceding to her cunning son, Donna tried once more to contact Joe, when the phone failed to be answered, Donna stalled a little while longer.

If only she decided to go a little earlier to Camber's garage...if only she would have stuck to her guns and made Tad stay with a babysitter...if only.
13. After his last customer came and retrieved his car, Joe went to his friend's house to get ready for their trip. Upon arriving at the house, Joe saw blood spattered on the porch steps. Feeling a little worried about his friend, Joe entered the house. When he saw his friend's body lying on the floor with his throat opened, Joe began to vomit. He knew he had to call the police, and ran into the kitchen to make the call. As soon as he entered the kitchen, he saw the package that I left and immediately knew that I had killed his friend. Scared, Joe fumbled with the phone book to call the police, and in his nervousness, he didn't hear me come into the kitchen. From where in the house did I enter the kitchen?

Answer: The basement

After his last customer came and retrieved his car, Joe got in his Ford station wagon and went to Gary's house. Getting out of his car, Joe thought it was funny that his friend was no where to be seen. Walking to the porch, he noticed blood spattered on the steps and thought that his crazy friend had cut himself shaving.

Walking up the steps, Joe noticed that the bottom panel of Gary's screen door was smashed in. Seeing this and remembering the blood, Joe thought that Gary had picked the wrong tourist to tell off, and the tourist had decided to beat Gary up.

Entering the house, Joe noticed what he thought was an end-table in the hallway, but upon approaching the so-called end-table, Joe realized that Gary didn't have an end-table and immediately knew that it was his friend lying on the floor. Looking at his friend with growing horror, Joe noticed that Gary's throat was opened...and looked as though it was chewed opened.

Joe began vomiting, and ran to the kitchen to call the police.

He thought about his wife and child in Connecticut and jealousy thought that they had taken their trip, but that he wasn't going to get his trip. As soon as he entered the kitchen, he saw the package that I left and knew that I was the one who killed Gary. Joe immediately knew that I was sick...severely sick with rabies.

Joe went to the phone and fumbled with the phone book that was tied to a rope near the phone, and began looking for the Castle Rock Sheriff's office. Unfortunately, Joe never heard the creaking of the basement door.

After I killed Gary, I went to the basement because it was cool. The breeze that was blowing through the kitchen windows had closed the door, but failed to latch it.

When I entered the kitchen Joe was in the middle of dialing the sheriff's office, but when he heard me growling he stopped in mid dial and turned around. He began talking to me, but the smell of fear that came from him drove me insane. Then Joe urinated in his pants, and the odor stung my sensitive nose. I sprang for him, but he moved out of the way and I struck my aching head on the kitchen wall. As Joe was making his way for the rear kitchen door, he tripped over a chair and spun around and fell on the floor. Immediately, as I went for Joe, he covered his throat with his hands, but I wasn't aiming for his throat, instead I was aiming for his manhood.

After the attack, and after killing Joe, I left Gary's house and headed home to the cool barn.
14. Shortly after I arrived at the barn, a car heaved into the dooryard. Donna got out of the car and walked around to the passenger door to help Tad out of the car. I began to growl, and as I growled Donna froze and then ran for the driver's side and got into the car. With both doors shut, I began barking and throwing myself at the door. Donna thought I knocked myself out, but in fact I didn't. I ran around to the passenger side and, because the window was half open, I stuck my head in the car and began barking ferociously. What did Donna do to get me away from the car?

Answer: She rolled up the window, making my head hurt as the window began to squeeze it

After I had killed Joe at Gary's house, I headed home to rest in the cool barn. Shortly after I arrived, a car heaved into the dooryard. The sound of the car hurt my ears, but I kept quiet.

The car stalled and Donna Trenton stopped the car, rolled the driver's side window up, and got out of the car.

She walked around to the passenger side to help Tad out of the seatbelt. However, before she reached the door, she heard me growling and froze. Our eyes were locked for what seemed a lifetime, but when she heard Tad scream at the sight of me, her eyes became unlocked. Donna then ran for the driver's side, but I was coming upon her fast.

She opened the door and fell into the driver's seat and closed the door. I slammed my head into the door at full force, it stunned me but didn't knock me out.

I got up and headed for the passenger side, and the open window, but Donna saw where I was headed and as I stuck my head in the window, she rolled the window up and squeezed my aching head between the window and the doorjamb. I pulled my head out and went into the barn to think things over.
15. The day that Donna and her son entered my dooryard, Donna's ex-lover went to her house. Entering the house, but not finding Donna, the man vandalized the house and left. What was the name of Donna's ex-lover?

Answer: Steve Kemp

Hours after Donna and Tad became trapped in my dooryard inside their car, her ex-lover, Steve Kemp, went to her house. Not finding Donna home, Kemp vandalized the house, cut up a picture of Donna and left a note.

This event would lead the police to delay checking out the note that Donna left on the refrigerator before she left, letting whomever came to the house know that she was at Camber's garage.
16. The day after Brett and Charity arrived in Connecticut, Charity was awakened by soft footsteps, and knew it was Brett. Charity knew that Brett was sleepwalking and decided to follow him because he was in a strange house. She followed Brett to the kitchen, where he acted out his everyday routine of feeding me. In his sleepwalk stupor, Brett said something about me that caused Charity to feel frightened. What was it that Brett said?

Answer: "Cujo's not hungry no more. Not no more, not no more."

The day after Brett and Charity arrived at her sister Holly's house, Charity was awakened by soft footsteps, steps that she knew were Brett's. Opening up her bedroom door, she knew her son was sleepwalking and decided to follow him because he was in a strange house.

Following Brett as he went into the kitchen, Charity looked on as she saw that Brett was acting out his everyday routine of feeding me.

He mimicked taking a big bag of dog food and filling up a bowl he retrieved from the cabinet. Brett placed the bowl down and then looked sad as he picked the bowl back up, saying "Cujo's not hungry no more.

Not no more, not no more."

This frightened Charity beyond belief, but before she could react, Brett placed the bowl on the kitchen counter and began to walk out of the kitchen.

He then stopped and, talking to an imaginary person, said, "Look in the weeds," and then continued upstairs to his bedroom. Charity found him in bed, sound asleep, and thought that the sleepwalking episode was caused by Brett's worrying about me.

If the truth be told, I was trying to make my thoughts known to my boy. I needed help, desperately, and most of all I needed his love.
17. The day after Donna and Tad became trapped in my dooryard, Donna thought about running for the back porch steps so she could enter the house and call for help, but each time she thought about it she worried what would happen to Tad if she couldn't make it back to the car. While Tad was sleeping, Donna decided to get out of the car and try for the door. She no sooner opened the door when I was upon her. She fell back into the driver's seat and began to fight me off. She honked the horn, which hurt my ears, and the sound finally drove me away. However, before I backed off, I bit Donna. Where did I bite her?

Answer: On her lower thigh, just about the knee

The day after Donna and Tad became trapped in my dooryard, Donna thought about running for the back porch steps to the heavy wooden door, so she could enter the house and call for help. However, each time she thought about it, she worried what would happen to Tad if should couldn't make it back to the car.

After thinking about her options, she put the sleeping Tad in the hatchback area of the car and made her way out of the car, closing it as she left. Because Donna could not see me, she took a few tentative steps toward the front of the car, tossing rocks in front of her and the car to see if she could hear them land.

Just as she thought she was in the clear, she saw me and I went for her. We battled at the driver's side door, then Donna finally got the door open and fell inside the car, with me coming in right after her.

At this moment, Tad woke up when he heard his mother screaming and me growling, but I paid no attention to him for I wanted Donna, the woman who seemed to relish causing me pain. We fought for what seemed ages, but then she started honking the horn, which hurt my sensitive ears. I backed off, but not before I tore a chunk out of her lower thigh, just above the knee. Donna shrieked and slammed the door.

I really didn't want to her hurt her, in fact I wanted her to help me, but something kept me from doing nice things. I hope she forgave me, for I didn't want to be bad. Looking back, I feel so bad for the anguish I caused.
18. As Donna and I were battling inside the car, her husband Vic received a call from the Castle Rock police to let him know that Donna and Tad were missing. When Vic arrived home the next day, a detective questioned Vic about his wife's car, and Vic told him it was at Camber's garage. The detective dispatched the sheriff to the garage to see if the car was there. What was the name of the detective in charge of the case?

Answer: Masen

At the same time that Donna and I were battling inside the car, her husband Vic received a call from the Castle Rock police to advise him that Donna and Tad were missing.

When Vic arrived home the next day, Detective Masen, who was in charge of the investigation, questioned Vic about the whereabouts of Donna's car. Vic told Masen that the car was at Camber's garage.

However, before Masen dispatched the sheriff to the garage, he located Steve Kemp, as he was the prime suspect. Kemp denied seeing Donna the past few days, but admitted that he vandalized the house.

This perplexed the detective, who advised Vic that Donna and his son were not with Kemp. Soon after, Masen dispatched the sheriff to Camber's garage.
19. The day that Vic arrived home, I was laying on the grass near the porch, with my aching head on my paws. I drifted in and out of sleep, but the dreams I had were so bad. Then, in the far off the distance, I heard a loud noise, which was actually a police car. The noise was so loud that it hurt my ears and made me cry. In my sickening state, what did I think the police car was?

Answer: A giant bee or wasp that was coming to sting me and make my pain even worse

The day that Vic arrived home, I was laying on the grass near the porch, with my aching head on my paws. I drifted in and out of sleep, but the dreams I had were confusing and awful. At one point, as I was about to drift off to sleep again, I heard in the far off distance a loud sound that was so bad.

In reality, it was a police car, but to my diseased brain I thought it was a giant bee or wasp that was coming to sting me and make my pain even worse.

I wanted to kill the sound to make it stop hurting my ears. I don't know what was wrong with me, but if I could have killed the sound, I would have. If I could have killed all the sounds and sickening smells in the entire world, I would have.
20. When the police car drove into my dooryard, I sneaked under the porch, for I didn't want the sheriff to see me. Seeing Donna's car parked near the garage, the sheriff got out and examined the car. Little did he know that I was nearby. I sprang for him, pushed him backward onto the ground, and attacked him. What was the name of the sheriff?

Answer: George Bannerman

When Sheriff George Bannerman came to my dooryard, he didn't expect to see Donna's car. He reached for his mike to call in that he found the car, but then decided against it. This was Bannerman's downfall.

Pulling up next to the car, Bannerman saw the face of Donna, baked like an apple. To Bannerman, the way she was sitting slumped over in the car, he thought she might have been shot, but because he didn't see bullet holes, he discounted that theory.

Then, to his amazement, he saw the woman move and knew she was alive.

Bannerman then got out of his cruiser and went to examine the car.

He was astonished to see that the car was battered, as if someone or something had bashed the driver's side in. Sensing that something was not right, Bannerman reached for the security of his .38, but unbeknownst to the sheriff, I was watching his every move.

To me, this man in blue caused all my pain, and I wanted to rip him limb from limb for what he did to me. I started to growl, a deep low growl that somehow escaped the sheriff's ears. I charged out from under the porch and sprang for this wretched man.

As I sprang for him, the sheriff turned just in time to see me coming for him. He pulled out his gun, but before he could use it, I was upon him. I pushed him down to the ground and his gun went flying into the air, landing a short distance away.

I then began to bite this man below his navel, gutting him. He tried to get me away from his wounded stomach, and succeeded, but only for a short time. Then, to the sheriff's terror, I went for him again, this time pulling out his intestines. To my amazement, I saw the woman get of her car, and this made me leave the sheriff. I went after the woman, but she retreated back inside the car.

During this short time, the sheriff tried to make a go for his police cruiser, but he collapsed in the bright sun. He made it back to his feet and stumbled to the cruiser, and reached for the car door and the safety within. But before he made it inside, I was upon him again, and this time there was no escaping from me.

Why couldn't this man see that I was sick? I tried to tell everyone how truly ill I was, but no one paid attention. I'm so sorry I caused all this destruction.
21. A short while after I had killed the sheriff, Donna knew that she had to get help for Tad, who was dehydrated and dying. Before leaving the car, Donna placed Tad in the hatchback for his safety. Then Donna left the car. What time was it that Donna left the safety of the car for the last time?

Answer: 12:30 PM

A short while after I killed the sheriff, Donna knew that she had to get help for Tad, who was dehydrated and dying. She thought about her options, and kept rethinking what she had to do.

Looking at me, Donna saw that I seemed to shrink inside my heavy fur, which was streaked with blood and vomit.

She also noticed that my eyes were hollow and vacant, but she did not feel my pain. All she saw was that I was some kind of monster, who was keeping a watch to make sure she met her maker.

After thinking over her options, Donna placed Tad in the hatchback of the car for his protection, and then left the safety of the car for the last time.

It was 12:30 PM when the battle for the dooryard went underway.
22. After Donna left her car for the last time, she headed for something that she saw lying in the grass, just beyond the car. After retrieving the item in the grass, our battle began. What was the item that Donna found?

Answer: A bat

After leaving the safety of her car for the last time, Donna headed for the bat that she noticed days before lying in the grass, and grabbed it. If only Donna would have looked a little further, she would have seen the gun that was knocked out of Bannerman's hand in his attempt to fend off the dog, but Donna didn't do this.

With the bat in her hand, Donna and I began our fight for the dooryard. I sprang for her, but Donna swung the bat, hitting me in the ribs, winding me. I got to my feet, but Donna hit me in the head with the bat, and I fell to the ground.

Then she hit me in my hind legs, making my cry in pain. She kept swinging the bat at me, and a few times I made her miss me, but then she struck me in the middle of my back, making me fall to the ground.

Then she hit me again, and this time the bat broke in half, and all Donna was left with was the handle of the bat, then when it broke could pass for a crudely made knife.

I dragged myself to my feet and lunged for the woman who had caused me all of my pain. And, as I lunged, Donna stabbed me with the splintered bat in my right eye, driving it into my brain. But, as I was not dead, and because she stabbed me while I was in motion, I landed on her and we fell to the ground. I then went for her throat, but she fought me off and pushed me to the side. I tried desperately to get to my feet, but all my legs did was scratch at the gravel, and then I died, but Donna kept hitting me with the bat, over and over.
23. After I lost the battle for the dooryard, Vic arrived in time to see Donna standing over me, and he went to her. He asked her where Tad was at, and Donna told him he was in the car. When Vic went to the car, Tad was alive, but badly dehydrated and in need of medical care?

Answer: No

After taking a nap, Vic woke up and felt he had to do something, instead of just sitting around. He got into his car, and headed out to the Camber's Garage. On his way to the garage, he happened by Gary Pervier's house, and was astonished to see Joe's station wagon in the dooryard. Vic, feeling uneasy, entered Gary's house and found the bodies of Gary and Joe. Putting two and two together, he came to the realization that I was responsible for the disappearance of his wife and son.

Vic arrived as Donna was standing over me, beating my dead body over and over again with fat part of the bat that had broken off. Running to her, Vic asked Donna where Tad was, and she told him that Tad was in the car. Running to the car, Vic opened the hatchback and, to his horror, realized that his son was dead. Vic asked Donna how long Tad had been dead, and Donna went wild, not willing to believe that her son was dead, for she knew he was alive when she placed him in the hatchback.

Donna pushed Vic out of the way and began to administer CPR to their son, she breathed her breath into his little body, and kept on doing it until the paramedics arrived.

When the paramedics tried to take her away from her son, Donna went ballistic and bit one of them. Finally, after what seemed like hours, Donna was taken away in an ambulance.

A short while after Donna, Tad, and Vic were taken from my dooryard, a veterinarian came for me. She put on long rubber gloves and retrieved from her truck a circular bone saw. She cut off my head and sent it to the State Commissioner of Animals, where my brain would be tested for rabies. Later, my remains were cremated and my ashes were taken to the Augusta waste-treatment plant for disposal.
24. The day that my life slipped from me, Brett and Charity received a call in Connecticut telling them what happened to me and to Joe. Several months later, in the winter of 1980, Charity gave Brett puppy. The puppy remained unnamed until the following spring. What was the name of Brett's new puppy?

Answer: Willie

The same day that my life slipped from me, Charity and Brett received a call advising them of what happened to me and to Joe. Charity was in a state of shock, but did not grieve. Brett grieved for the loss of his father and for me.

Several months later, in the winter of 1980, Charity gave her son a new puppy, a mixed breed.

The first question that Brett asked his mother was if the puppy had his shots, this question made Charity's heart feel heavy, for she didn't want her son to always be skeptical.

Brett asked if the puppy could come in because it was snowing outside, and Charity told him that the puppy could come in and that if the puppy messed in the house then Brett would have to clean it up. Charity then asked her son what he was going to name the puppy, but he told her that he didn't know just then.

The new puppy remained unnamed until the spring, when for reasons unknown, Charity and Brett began to call him Willie.

I knew my boy would never forget me, for I knew he loved me very much. I was not mad that Brett had another dog to keep him company, in fact, I was happy for my boy.
25. There is a lesson to be learned from my story, do you know what that lesson is?

Answer: Always have your pet innoculated

I tried to do everyting that was ever asked of me, even if it didn't make sense to me. I never wanted to be a "bad dog," all my life I strived to be "good dog," but something made me do things that I would never had done under ordinary circumstances. I had been struck with the brain disease called rabies.

Rabies is contracted through a bite.

There are two forms of rabies, the furious form and the dumb form. The furious form last for several days to several weeks and the infected animal becomes wild and aggressive.

The dumb form is also known as the paralytic form. During the paralytic form, animals can have seizures and without warning die in the final stage. An animal who has been innoculated for rabies, and comes into contact with a rabid animal can be saved, providing the animal is taken to the veterinarian immediately and given a booster shot of the rabies vaccine.

However, this is not a guarantee.

If anyone learned a lesson from my story, then my death was not for nothing. I am now at Rainbow Bridge, awaiting for the arrival of my boy.
