Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the city in which Lord Vetinari is Patrician?

Answer: Ankh-Morpork

Even after killing an earlier Patrician, Lord Vetinari is the most successful of the Patricians of Ankh-Morpork. The city works, and no-one can afford to have him assassinated, although he was shot in the leg in "Men at Arms".
2. In "Jingo", what are Mrs Spent's rules for lodgers?

Answer: "no wimmin, no cookin, no music, no pets"

Captain Carrot rents a room from Mrs. Spent during his undercover mission with Angua. Carrot winds up breaking two rules when he sneaks Angua into the room. Firstly she is a woman, and secondly she is a werewolf.
3. "Dux" was the original name for what?

Answer: Commander

Sam Vimes is made Duke of Ankh-Morpork in the book "Jingo". "Commander is rather a mouthful. So I have been reminded that a word that originally meant commander was 'Dux'." This is said by Lord Vetinari.
4. What are lumps of fat measured with in the book "The Fifth Elephant"?

Answer: The Iron Crust Scale

Lady Sybil surprises the Low King with her knowledge of fat extraction by using technical jargon and some seriously hard bargaining. She also tells him that making her husband's meals is an education in itself, although she really got the information from a diplomatic briefing file given to Sam Vimes at the start of the book.
5. Who delivers Times' son(s) in "Thief of Time"?

Answer: Nanny Ogg

Wen the Eternally Surprised visits Nanny Ogg at various intervals during her life on his quest to find the best midwife, first as a young girl, then as a married woman and finally as the old woman she is at the time of the book.
6. The Sweeper in "Thief of Time" knows the secret to Deją-fu.

Answer: True

The Sweeper uses Deją-fu to defeat Time. Sweeper is also a master of OkiDoki, Shiitake, Upsidazi, No-Kando and Tung-pi
7. What will happen if Tiffany is forced to marry the Wintersmith, according to the story "Wintersmith"?

Answer: It will always be winter

Tiffany has inadvertently caught the eye of the Wintersmith when she accidentally became entangled in the Dark Morris dance that welcomes the winter, and must fight against him to keep the Discworld from staying eternally winter.
8. In "Monstrous Regiment", in what order are the squad found out? (Think carefully).

Answer: Polly, Lofty, Shufti, Wazzer, Tonker, Jade, Igorina and Maladict

Polly is found out first by Jackrum in the privy, he gives her a roll of socks. Lofty is discovered by Polly as they go on a comfort break, Shufti, after she fails to swear when fighting Corporal Scallot for the sherry. Wazzer is discovered, again by Polly, when she curtsies to the Duchess when no-one was around (she didn't see Polly in the dark). Tonker is next, spotted by Maladict when the cavalry patrolman attacks Lofty. Jade comes clean when Shufti makes her speech about them being girls after the patrolmen attack. Igorina is discovered by Polly and Maladict confesses at the end of the story, "Actually I'm really Maladicta".

The high command of the Borogravin Army is also found out to be women. Last but not least, Sergeant Jackrum is found out by Polly at the end of the book.
9. How old is Moist Von Lipwig in "Going Postal"?

Answer: Twenty-six

Moist is asked this question by Sacharissa Cripslock of "The Times" newspaper.
10. Who was Arch-chancellor Ridcully in love with as a young man?

Answer: Granny Weatherwax

This is found out in "Lords and Ladies" - the young Esme Weatherwax is chased rather coquettishly by a young man, whom we later find out was none other than Mustrum Ridcully, the Arch-Chancellor of Unseen University.
