Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Let's start before even hatching. Which swamp dragon was having problems mating when Sam Vimes first met Lady Sybil?

Answer: Lord Mountjoy Gayscale Talonthrust III of Ankh

Sybil greeted Sam with the news that the dragon 'couldn't cut the mustard' and that 'it really needs two of you', otherwise he was 'for the choppy-chop'. Sam, thinking it was a human being, was convinced he was 'in the presence of some sex-crazed would-be murderess'! The wrong answers are all swamp dragons of Lady Sybil's - Dewdrop Mabelline Talonthrust the First was the old soppy who dribbled on Sam, Gayheart Talonthrust of Ankh was tall for a swamp dragon at 'fourteen thumbs high, toe to matlock' (three feet six inches) and Goodboy Bindle Featherstone of Quirm becomes Errol.
2. Now matched - in terms of marriage, which of these Discworld couples is the odd one out?

Answer: Magrat and Verence

Magrat and Verence are the only two that we know get married to each other. All the others have had relationships of a sort, but none of them involved marriage.
3. Dispatched. What was the name of the Third Class Thief who was incinerated by a dragon in 'Guards, Guards'?

Answer: Zebbo Mooty

This was the first death by dragon for hundreds of years. Death himself turned up, as it was such a special occasion. The wrong answers are all Discworld thieves - Claude Tombola is the Discworld equivalent of Raffles (Groan!), being a Gentleman Thief, 'Barmy' Postillion the Discworld equivalent of 'Mad Carew' (he stole the Green Eye of the Little Yellow Dog) and Here'n'Now the worst thief in the world.
4. Hatched. Who delivered Sam Vimes' son (also called Sam)?

Answer: Mossy Lawn the pox doctor

From 'Night Watch'. Mrs Content was in attendance, but the birth was not going well, so Sam fetched Mossy Lawn. Igor wanted to help (Bless!) but Dr Lawn said only if he could be boiled for twenty minutes. Nanny Ogg is the best midwife on Discworld, but she's away in Lancre and Sam was born in Ankh-Morpork.
5. Matched. Whom did Mort marry?

Answer: Ysabell

Mort fell for Princess Keli when he was sent to perform Death's duty on her, but couldn't. After an unpropitious start, eventually he and Ysabell, Death's adopted daughter, fell in love and married. Susan was their daughter and Ptraci is from 'Pyramids' and as far as I know, never even met Mort.
6. Dispatched. Which of these characters is the odd one out?

Answer: Mrs Cake

Mrs Cake is the one who isn't dead. All the others belong to the Fresh Start Club we first meet in 'Reaper Man'. Mrs Cake has a daughter who's a werewolf and is a medium herself, so she just talks to the dead.
7. Hatched. Did Nanny Ogg go with the stranger who asked for the best midwife in the World in 'Thief of Time' when he first asked her?

Answer: No

She wasn't the best midwife in the world when he asked her, she was just Miss Ogg, a witch who still wore her black pointy hat in the house. It was actually Time's child that she was to deliver, so I suppose it is understandable that the mysterious stranger got a bit temporally confused. Through the years, he kept reappearing and eventually 'the best midwife in the world' applied to her.
8. Matched. Which of these Discworld couples is the odd one out (not in the matrimonial sense, more a species sense)?

Answer: Detritus and Ruby

Detritus and Ruby are both trolls, so they are both the same species. Carrot is a human (or dwarf according to him) and Angua is a werewolf. Agnes is a human and Vlad was a vampire. Ella is a human and the Duc was a frog.
9. Dispatched. Who was killed trying to prevent the destruction of the library at Unseen University during the brief time Coin was in charge of Unseen University?

Answer: Spelter

A former Bursar of the University, Spelter looked like a horse. All the wrong answers are also former or current members of the University.
10. Finally, what was the name of the newspaper started by William de Worde, in which 'Hatches, Matches and Dispatches' could be recorded?

Answer: The Ankh-Morpork Times

The Ankh-Morpork Times proclaimed that 'The Truth Shall Make You Free' -or 'Fret' - or 'Fred', and published pictures of humorous vegetables, amongst other things.
