This noble dwarf of the line of Durin went on Thorin Oakenshield's quest to recapture the mountain of Erebor along with his brother Dwalin. He later led an expedition that briefly re-took the ancient dwarf kingdom of Khazad-dûm (Moria), only to be killed there by Durin's bane, the Balrog

Answer: Barahir

Barahir of the house of Bëor, saved Finrod in the Dagor Bragollach to become an outlaw of Morgoth. Betrayed by his follower Gorlim, he was killed in Dorthonion with all his men save his son Beren.

Answer: Bolg

Bolg succeeded his father after the Battle of Azanulbizar, and for over 150 years organized the power of the Northern Orcs. He brought his army to bear on Erebor, and he mortally wounded Thorin Oakenshield in that battle. He was slain by Beorn.

Answer: Bard I

Bard the Bowman used his charmed black arrow to shoot Smaug in the only place where his armor was weak. He was a descendant of Lord Girion, founder of Dale, and therefore was named the Lord when Dale was founded again after the Dragon's death.

Answer: Belegund

Brodda the Easterling forcibly took as spouse Aerin, kin of Húrin. Aerin helped Túrin and his mom escape, and he killed Brodda to exact revenge.

Brandir "the lame", son of Handir, was in love with Níniel, even though she was wife of Túrin, and Túrin killed him unjustly when Brandir brought back tidings of Níniel's doom. Túrin was acting out of jealousy.

Túrin killed Beleg accidentally. Beleg was attempying to save a delirious Túrin, and Túrin killed Beleg with Beleg's own sword.

Answer: Beren

Beren was the one-handed hero who wrested a Silmaril from the iron crown of Morgoth to gain the hand of the elf-maiden he loved, Lúthien daughter of King Thingol. After fulfilling the quest, he died from his wounds. Lúthien Tinúviel pleaded in the Halls of Mandos for his soul, and it was granted to her. They then lived on the isle of Tol Galen, where their son Dior was born.

Bëor the old was of the first men to enter Beleriand. He is only one of three men in history to receive the title "the old", after living for 93 years. He was a follower of Finrod of the elves.

Answer: Bereg

Bereg sowed discontent among the men of Estolad. Out of fear of Morgoth, and out of anger at the Eldar, he resolved to leave Beleriand for the south, away from the power of the dark lord.

Answer: Bór

He fought in the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, and was slain there by the treachery of his countryman Ulfang the Black. His three sons were slain as well, but slew the sons of Ulfang. Although Bór remained loyal, it could not avert Morgoth's victory.

Answer: Bilbo

Bilbo was the 'lucky number' on Thorin's quest, number 14. He was hired as a burglar, and helped the dwarves on many occasions. Along the way, under the Misty Mountains he found The One Ring, riddled with Gollum for his life, and stole a great cup from under the nose of Smaug the dragon. After Smaug left, Bilbo found the Arkenstone of Thrain, and ransomed it to the Lake-men.

Answer: Beorn

He and his descendants could take on bear-shape when they wished. He took part in the Battle of Five Armies, where he killed the Orc-chieftain Bolg.

Answer: Brego

Brego was the second king of Rohan, son of King Eorl. In his reign, he drove the Easterlings out of the Wold. He died of grief when his eldest son, Baldor, failed to return from the Paths of the Dead.

Answer: Bombur

By the words of Glóin "Bombur was now so fat that he could not move himself from his couch to his chair at table, and it took six young dwarves to lift him" (LOTR Bk. 2 Ch. 1).

Answer: Boromir

Eldest son of Steward Denethor II, Boromir was sent to Imladris seeking Isildur's bane. He joined the nine walkers, but his goal was not to destroy the Ring, but to use it as a weapon in the hands of men against Sauron. He was slain by orcs defending Merry and Pippin at the falls of Rauros.

Beleg, named for the famous elven-archer, Beleg Strongbow, also saw during his reign Gondor nearing the height of its power. Though King Ciryandil of Gondor was slain at Umbar during the siege, his son, Ciryaher, made Gondor mighty.
