Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A knight in the reign of Maegor the Cruel, accused of conspiring against the tyrant

Answer: Theo Bolling

It is not certain if Theo truly conspired to place Prince - later King - Jaehaerys on the Iron Throne. Yet, we know that he was arrested by the Kingsguard and executed in one day. Afterwards, his wife, Elinor Costayne, was taken by Maegor as his wife, because she had proven to be fertile, having borne Theo three children. However, Maegor did not get the heir he wanted from Elinor, who was the first of Maegor's wives to outlive the tyrant.

Information comes from "The World of Ice and Fire".
2. Master of Laws during the reigns of Viserys I and Aegon II, nicknamed "Ironrod"

Answer: Jasper Wylde

Jasper Wylde was one of the attendants at the urgent Small Council meeting that transpired after the death of Viserys I. He supported the Hand, Otto Hightower, in his choice to crown Prince Aegon, because King Jaehaerys I had chosen the male over the female heirs in the series of succession twice, in accordance with the ancient Andal tradition where a son always comes before a daughter. Later, Ironrod was hesitant to support Prince Aemond's plan of taking the war to the hostile riverlands, but was overruled. When the forces of Princess Rhaenyra seized King's Landing, Jasper was killed, insisting to the last breath that the throne was Aegon II's by right.

Information comes from "The Princess and the Queen".
3. A supporter of the greens during the Dance of the Dragons, made a futile attempt to slay Princess Rhaenyra's dragon

Answer: Byron Swann

Byron Swann attempted to imitate the methods of the legendary Serwyn of the Mirror Shield, by hiding behind his shield so that the dragon would see only his reflection, but his attempt failed and he perished.
Later, Grand Maester Munkun stated, inaccurately, that Byron attempted to kill the dragon Vhagar, which belonged to Prince Aemond, an account proven false by a letter his squire had sent to his daughter.

4. Member of a notorious outlaw brotherhood and said to be the best archer ever in Westeros

Answer: Fletcher Dick

Fletcher Dick hailed from a village near Stonehelm, the seat of House Swann. The brotherhood he was a member of was the Kingswood Brotherhood. One of the members of the Night's Watch, Ulmer, recalls that Dick taught him how to use a bow and arrow.

Information comes from "A Storm of Swords" and "The World of Ice and Fire".
5. A landed knight who, in his youth, became infatuated with Aerys II Targaryen's future wife

Answer: Bonifer Hasty

When young, Bonifer Hasty was a promising tourney knight and the future Queen Rhaella was infatuated with him. Wearing her favor, Bonifer won a tournament and named her Queen of Love and Beauty. However, when she was given as wife of Aerys II Targaryen, aka the Mad King, he became withdrawn and pious. Years later, Barristan Selmy mentions the story to Daenerys Targaryen, but does not give her the name of the man who had captured her mother's heart.

6. Master-at-arms of Storm's End at the beginning of Robert's Rebellion, attempted to surrender to the Tyrells during the siege

Answer: Gawen Wylde

Gawen Wylde's attempted betrayal infuriated Stannis Baratheon, who was holding Storm's End on behalf of his brother, Robert. Stannis initially thought of catapulting Ser Gawen and his co-conspirators to the enemy camp, but Maester Cressen persuaded him to imprison them and wait for Robert to issue the verdict. Ser Gawen died in his cell before the arrival of Davos Seaworth and his onions.

Information comes from "A Clash of Kings".
7. A former smith in Storm's End and later member of the Night's Watch, forged Robert Baratheon's warhammer and Stannis Baratheon's first sword

Answer: Donal Noye

During the siege of Storm's End Donal lost his hand, and later he joined the Night's Watch, eventually becoming the smith of Castle Black. Donal befriends Jon Snow and believes him when he tells everybody that he briefly joined Mance Rayder's wildling army under orders by Qhorin Halfhand. During the Battle of the Wall, Donal fells a giant, but is mortally wounded as well. Jon Snow thinks that Noye was a very compassionate man and Stannis Baratheon says that "he would have made a better Lord Commander for your order than any of these fools who are squabbling over it now."

8. A commoner who won the archery contest in the tourney that celebrated Eddard Stark's appointment as Hand of the King, and later joined the Brotherhood Without Banners

Answer: Anguy

After his victory, Anguy is approached by Eddard Stark, who offers him a place in his household, but he declines the offer. Later, he joins Beric Dondarrion's detachment that was sent to bring Gregor Clegane to justice, which became the core of the Brotherhood Without Banners. When Beric dies and is replaced as leader by Lady Stoneheart, the archer leaves the Brotherhood, disappointed with the new leader's quest for vengeance.

9. Leader of the Iron Throne detachment sent by Eddard Stark to capture Gregor Clegane, and later chief of the Brotherhood Without Banners

Answer: Beric Dondarrion

Beric Dondarrion was one of the few knights who remained in King's Landing after the end of the tournament thrown to celebrate Eddard Stark's appointment as Hand of the King. Eddard chooses Beric as the leader of the band sent to deliver the false knight Gregor Clegane to justice instead of the celebrated Loras Tyrell, because Loras would fight for vengeance and Eddard wanted a man with a sense of justice. After the detachment was ambushed by Gregor Clegane at Mummer's Ford, the surviving members continued to fight against the Lannisters in the war-torn Riverlands.

Information comes from "A Game of Thrones" and "A Storm of Swords".
10. A loyal retainer of Stannis Baratheon, acts as his bodyguard and second-in-command during the northern campaign

When the War of the Five Kings began, he offered his sword to Stannis Baratheon. He accompanied his King at the Battle of the Blackwater and the Battle of the Wall, where he killed one of Tormund Giantsbane's sons. When King Stannis left the Wall in order to liberate the North from the Boltons and the Greyjoys, Richard marched with him.
