As Joe and his co-workers are working on the top floor of the building they're constructing, a radio is in the background playing "Tender Years." Joe stares at the radio, then walks over to it and kicks it off the top of the building. His co-workers look on in astonishment. Then one of Joe's co-workers tells him that he thinks Joe needs a vacation.

Answer: American Rock Cafe

Joe goes to the American Rock Cafe (the name of the cafe can be seen on the waitress' shirt) and listens to the local band playing. To Joe, the band is good, but not good enough. Their lead guitarist seems to be rushing along; they seem to be missing something.

As Joe listens to the local band, he seems to like how Hilton, the saxophone player is playing. He calls a waitress over and orders Hilton a drink. After the band is finished with the song, the waitress brings the drink to Hilton and points out Joe to him. Hilton walks over and asks Joe how he knew he liked Irish Mist. Joe told him that he knew a saxophone player who liked the drink and figured he would like it, too. Hilton asks Joe who that saxophone player was, and Joe told him it was Wendell Newton. Hilton then told Joe that he knew Wendell long before he joined Eddie and The Cruisers.

Hilton then asks Joe if he plays, and Joe tells him that he plays guitar. Just then, Rick Diesel, the leader of the band comes over and begins taunting Joe. Finally, after Hilton says, "A man's music speaks louder than words," Joe agrees.

Answer: Garden of Eden

Joe grabbed Rick's guitar, then walked over to the band and said to follow him. He sang the song "Garden of Eden," which went over big with the audience and with Rick, who then wants Joe to be in his band, but Joe tells Rick to get out of his way.

During the performance, Joe thinks about Wendell Newton. The flashback that's shown is when the Cruisers are performing at Tony Marts in 1963.

After Joe finishes singing, he gets down and sees Diane, the woman he met at the hockey game. Joe asked Diane how she found him, and Diane told him she saw the name of the place on the book of matches he had in his hand at the game. Diane asked Joe if goes to the cafe often, and Joe tells her, "Yeah, once too often."

At the American Rock Cafe, Joe asks Diane if she needs a ride home, which she readily accepts. At her apartment, Joe notices that Diane has a lot of paintings, and one in particular was of a volcano with lava flowing around it. Joe tells Diane that he doesn't get it, and Diane says, "I'm trying to exhaust my reds," to which Joe says that that wasn't what he was talking about. What he meant was he doesn't get why she wants to paint him. Diane explains why she wants to paint him, but again Joe refuses.

Answer: "Maybe."

At first, Rick asks Joe to be in his band, which Joe flatly refuses. Then Rick changes tactics and asks Joe to jam with him. Joe says "Maybe," and then Rick asks if he can go down the elevator with him, instead of using the stairs. Joe asks him if he has a union card, and Rick tells him he doesn't. Then they both start laughing.

Answer: "Music's gotta live, man, it's gotta breathe."

When Joe sees that Rick is just playing and isn't feeling the music, and Joe says, "Not bad." Rick says, "What's that supposed to mean?" and Joe says, "Not bad means not bad. Look kid, you play good. I mean if I were in the audience, I would be dazzled, but then I'd go home and forget about it." Then Rick demands that Joe show him something he doesn't know, and Joe plays the guitar like a finely tuned violin.

Afterwards, Joe says, "Music's gotta live, man, it's gotta breathe."

Dave and Lew are walking to the elevator, and there's a crowd of reporters around. Dave yells out that Satin records is offering $25,000 to anyone who has information that can tell them who played backup on the mystery tapes. Dave then says they've had reports that Eddie has been seen in 12 states and in Paris, France.

When they get to the elevator, a reporter asks them how long they're going to keep up the scam. The reporter never gets an answer as the elevator doors shut. Dave then asks Lew, "How long do you think we can keep up this scam?" and Lew replies, "As long as we have records to sell."
