Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 'In the media circus of life, they were the main attraction.'

Answer: Natural Born Killers

Oliver Stone directed this incredibly violent film starring Woody Harrelson and Juliette Lewis as serial killers in love. There are some very creepy scenes (Who am I kidding? The whole movie is creepy!) wherein the influence of mass media and popular culture on the killing sprees of the stars is made brutally obvious. Robert Downey Jr. plays a reporter who gets caught up in their whirlwind of violence.
2. 'Get ready for rush hour.'

Answer: Speed

The movie that made Keanu Reeves a bona fide star. He plays Jack Traven, a member of the LAPD targeted by a bitter but crafty bomber (Dennis Hopper) because he botched what should have been an easy job for the bomber. Traven must save a busload of people during rush hour in Los Angeles, and the bus must stay above 50 or it will explode. Sandra Bullock plays Annie Porter, one of the bus's unlucky riders who ends up driving the bus. Of course, there is some romance between Reeves and Bullock (how else would they become sex symbols?).
3. 'To crack this case, these two cops will have to flash more than their badges.'

Answer: Exit to Eden

Garry Marshall directed this much-dissed movie (which I found hilarious). Rosie O'Donnell and Dan Aykroyd play cops who go undercover to the island of Eden. Also at the island is a photographer played by Paul Mercurio (yes, that great guy from 'Strictly Ballroom'), intent on exploring his submissive fantasies. O'Donnell and Aykroyd have to pose as members of the island's S and M community, while Mercurio slowly falls in love with aloof Mistress Lisa (Dana Delany). If you can handle Rosie O'Donnell in leather, this is a good one to check out.
4. 'Fifty million people watched, but no one saw a thing.'

Answer: Quiz Show

A young lawyer (Rob Morrow) working for Congress roots around and discovers that America's most popular 1950s television program, a quiz show, is fixed. The attractive Charles Van Doren (Ralph Fiennes) is fed answers so that he can remain a champion against more worthy opponents like Herbie Stemple (John Turturro). Robert Redford directed the film masterfully.
5. 'You won't know the facts until you've seen the fiction.'

Answer: Pulp Fiction

This classic Quentin Tarantino crime flick got pushed out of the Oscars by 'Forrest Gump', but we try not to hold a grudge. The intertwining stories take us to hit men, a boxer, bandits, and other interesting characters. John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson reclaimed their coolness with this film. Uma Thurman, Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, and Ving Rhames also played notable parts.
6. 'A perfect assassin. An innocent girl. They have nothing left to lose except each other.'

Answer: The Professional

Luc Besson wrote and directed this action film about a young girl who befriends an assassin when her family is murdered. Jean Reno and Natalie Portman play the unlikely pair, with Gary Oldman balancing things out as the villain. The film was photographed by Besson's frequent collaborator, Thierry Arbogast.
7. 'Through the good times. Through the bad times. When a man loves a woman it's for all times.'

Answer: When a Man Loves a Woman

Andy Garcia and Meg Ryan star in this heartbreaking drama about an alcoholic woman with two children and the husband who tries to love and support her.
8. 'When he said I do, he didn't say what he did.'

Answer: True Lies

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Tom Arnold star in this classic action comedy. Arnie plays a married spy, whose wife knows nothing of his profession until she is pulled into the business by her husband to keep her from seeking out satisfaction and excitement with another man. Tom Arnold is irresistible as the sidekick.
9. 'Finally, a comedy that will change the way you think, the way you feel, and most importantly... the way you dress.'

Answer: The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert

'To Wong Foo' came out in 1995, not '94. 'Priscilla' was a fantastically fun Australian movie about three drag queens making a trip across the desert to get to a cabaret gig. Of course, many adventures ensue. Terence Stamp, Hugo Weaving and Guy Pearce play the drag queens. The film won a much-deserved Oscar for Best Costume Design.
10. 'Fear can hold you prisoner. Hope can set you free.'

Answer: The Shawshank Redemption

This beautiful film is perhaps my favorite movie of all time. Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman star in a script based on writings by Stephen King. Robbins, imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit, changes forever the lives of those men he befriends while in prison, most among them Freeman's character. Frank Darabont directed from his own script.

The film was photographed by Roger Deakins, who works on most of the Coen brothers' projects and filmed Ron Howard's 'A Beautiful Mind'.
