While spending long hours with his sister's New York psychiatrist, trying to determine what drives his sister, he uncovers horrors from their past that keep him from being whole. Sparks soon fly when he ends up having to house a very proper French diplomat's daughter, and the school girls in her charge, who are fleeing from the Japanese. But not to worry, before too long 'Goody Two Shoes' and 'The Filthy Beast' manage to work out most of their differences.
4. (1948)Hitchcock has always been one of my favourite directors. This movie tells the tale of two prep school friends who murder a third student, partly for the thrill and partly as an intellectual experiment. Then they entertain family, friends, and their favourite professor while the body is still hidden in the apartment, to see if they can handle the stress.
5. (1984) This action movie finds a romance novelist journeying to Colombia to deliver a treasure map to save her sister's life. Unfortunately several people are after the map, and she gets drawn into the kind of adventure she has only written about before. Michael Douglas plays the hero of the story, although he's not quite as perfect as the heroes that she invents. It all works out in the end though, and they sail away down the streets of New York.
6. (1977) This action/adventure took place a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. A princess, a budding Jedi, and a smuggler with his giant hairy friend band together with the rebel alliance to save the universe. I've already said more than I need to!
7. (1983) This drama tells the story of a bunch of college friends reuniting for the funeral of a friend who'd committed suicide. Radicals in their college days, the friends had all 'sold out', most of them becoming very successful when they opted back into society. It also had one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard.
8. (1988) There aren't many 'Chick Flicks' in my collection, but this one is definitely in there. The movie traces them through their successes and failures, marriages and divorces, and ends with one of them dying young, leaving her daughter in the custody of the other.
9. (1944) Cary Grant stars in this comedy in which he discovers, on his wedding day, that his 2 dear, beloved aunts are making a hobby out of poisoning lonely old gentlemen and burying them in their basement. Things heat up a little when Grant's criminal brother shows up with his plastic surgeon friend, looking for a place to lay low while he acquires a new face.
10. (2000) A cocky, chauvinistic ad executive is mildly electrocuted and finds himself blessed with the ability to hear what women are thinking. At first he uses this ability to further his own ends by scoring points with his daughter, scoring with the local waitress, and manipulating his new boss out of her job. But then he starts to really take a look at the people he's using, and finds himself caring. Too bad more men can't read womens' minds!
11. (2001) This movie tells the tale of a recently split couple who have to pretend to be nice to each other to promote the release of the movie they made just before they split. But the eccentric director isn't letting anyone see the movie just yet, and the studio's publicity department has their hands full keeping that information away from the press. Fortunately the actions of the estranged couple, her new boyfriend and her sister who waits on her hand and foot are titillating enough to hold everyone's attention.
